The Manoogian Voice

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Manoogian Community,

Happy Spring. It is a pleasure to bring you the latest edition of the Manoogian Voice. We are thrilled to share some exciting updates from our school community.

Our robotics teams have been very successful this spring, with outstanding performances in competitions across all levels - from elementary to middle school to high school. These achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit of our students and mentors.

In addition to our robotics success, we have had the pleasure of hosting several Armenian visitors and programs at our school. These cultural exchanges enrich our learning environment and deepen our connection to our heritage.

As we approach the end of the school year, it is hard to believe that our senior class will soon be graduating. Many of these students have been part of the Manoogian family since elementary, and some even since preschool. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and excited to see them embark on the next chapter of their journey.

Thank you to our students, parents, faculty, and staff for your continued support and dedication. Together, we make the Manoogian community a vibrant and thriving place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,

Manoogian Pre-K News

March isn't just about the madness of basketball; it's also National Reading Month, and at PreK, we're marching full speed into the wonderful world of books! We rolled out the red carpet for visitors from our school and community to share the joy of reading with our little ones. From parents like Lilit Mihm and Raquel Samona to our very own Mrs. Holsinger and Ms. Armoudlian, everyone joined in on the reading fun—even some cool seniors stopped by!

But our learning adventures didn't stop there. With spring in full bloom, PreK has been buzzing with excitement! From building ladybug houses to growing green beans and witnessing their very first solar eclipse, our kids are soaking up all the wonders of the season. And let's not forget the egg-citing Easter break activities—dyeing eggs in vibrant colors added an extra splash of joy to the festivities!

As if that wasn't sweet enough, our beloved Pre-K teacher, Arlene Mirachian, kept the tradition alive by blessing each and every one of us with her homemade choreg before Easter break—a heartfelt gesture in memory of her father. Thank you, Mrs. Mirachian, for filling our hearts and tummies with love and warmth!

Manoogian Elementary News

National Reading Month brought a wave of excitement marked by a heartwarming new tradition: the Seniors visiting elementary classes to read aloud, share stories, and dive into literacy activities together. In the spirit of camaraderie, 5th graders devoured a whopping 123 books, earning themselves a well-deserved pizza party celebration!

Meanwhile, on March 14th, our 2nd and 3rd graders embarked on an adventure to the Michigan State University Extension Tollgate Farm and Education Center in Novi. There, they delved into the fascinating science and history of maple sugaring—a sweet experience they won't soon forget.

Adding a cultural flair, elementary students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade dazzled audiences with traditional Armenian dancing at the Ladies’ Lenten Luncheon. It was a beautiful showcase of heritage and talent.

But the learning didn't stop there! On April 10th, our 3rd graders put the finishing touches on their Michigan History studies with an immersive field trip to downtown Detroit. They explored iconic landmarks and learned about influential historical figures, enriching their understanding of our state's vibrant past.

And let's not forget our budding automotive enthusiasts! On April 11th, the Elementary Automotive program made its debut at Square One Automotive at OCC, sending three teams to compete in their inaugural meet. With determination and skill, they embraced the challenge and brought home three trophies, setting the stage for future success in this exciting program.

Manoogian Middle School News

Big shoutout to our outstanding school finalists for the My Michigan Hero essay competition, Lorin Dakessian, Lavan Yatooma, and Tanya Bahnam, and to 6th grader Mourad Bagdassarian as the Manoogian School Spelling Bee Champion! Both Lorin and Mourad have proceeded to the state and district levels for their competitions, and we are so proud of their hard work!

Special thank you to our 8th graders, who contributed beautiful Armenian dancing at the Ladies’ Lenten Luncheon, joining forces with the elementary and high school for a memorable performance. In the world of robotics, our Middle School Robotics team showcased their skills at Lawrence Tech University’s Robofest challenge. We're thrilled to announce that one of our teams has punched their ticket to the Robofest World Championship on May 11! Way to go! Locally, our middle school soccer players had an exciting opportunity to learn from the pros at a special workshop hosted by the Detroit City Football Club in April. They honed their skills and got inspired by meeting real athletes.

And let's not forget the highlight of the month—the annual Middle School Dance on April 12! With a glamorous "Red Carpet" theme, our kids got dressed to the nines for a night to remember. Cheers to all the fun and festivities!

Manoogian High School News

The vibrant Hamazkayin dance troupe shined at the Ladies’ Lenten Luncheon, sharing the stage with elementary and middle school dancers. Meanwhile, our high school received a prestigious visit from the University of Michigan Center for Armenian Studies, igniting discussions about exciting opportunities awaiting our students at U of M.

As spring blooms, our campus buzzes with excitement! From an unexpected Easter egg hunt to a lively spirit week and a competitive pep rally, we're embracing the season with gusto. Activities culminated on April 5th with an inaugural Spring Formal Dance, featuring games, music, and delicious food!

In the realm of sports, our middle and high school soccer teams received a visit from none other than Detroit City Football Club, inspiring our players with insights into professional soccer and the power of teamwork.

As our students gear up for testing season, let's shower them with encouragement and good vibes. Here's to their success!

Notable Armenian Dates & Anniversaries

On March 18, Baron Sebouh Avedikian and the Senior Class put on their annual Armenian Culture Day program. They get help from some underclassmen. Seniors act in a play by Armenian poet and playwright Hovhannes Toumanyan.

This year the play was “Nazar the Brave,” about a man who discovers his bravery, kills giants, and becomes a happy king. In addition, they honored Armenian musician Charles Aznavour and 20th century Soviet Armenian poet Barouyr Sevag. Students performed multiple traditional dances, read poetry, and enjoyed a special treat from Baron Sebouh playing the dumbek, a hand-held drum.

The school cherishes this tradition and looks forward to the creativity from Baron Sebouh and the students every year.

Manoogian STEAM & Special Events News

In their first elementary competition at Square One Robotics, the elementary automotive teams took home not one, not two, but THREE trophies! First and second place performance, and a third for “perfect pitch.” For their break-out competition, our elementary teams have set the bar high! Carrying the same mantle, the Middle School Beach Bums Robotics Team have clinched a spot in the prestigious Robofest World Championship on May 11! A huge round of applause for this incredible achievement, Middle School Beach Bums!

Meanwhile, in the high school arena, our Robotics team has been making waves of its own. At the Renaissance FIRST Robotics Tournament, they not only secured an impressive 2nd place trophy but also walked away with the esteemed Sustainability Award! It's a historic moment for us as we've reached the finals for the very first time, continuing the trajectory of victories from our STEAM teams this year. Thank you to Mr. Schroeder and student advisor Jurius Azar for their dedication and mentorship.
