Enterobacter (Cronobacter) sakazakii Isolation Agar

Enterobacter (Cronobacter) sakazakii Isolation Agar is a chromogenic medium used for the selective isolation of Cronobacter spp. (formerly E. sakazakii) in infant milk products, according to ISO 22964.

In 1950 the first form of this bacterium was found inside an infant formula. Later, in 1980, John J. Farmer III proposed the name “Enterobacter sakazakii”, to honor Japanese microbiologist Riichi Sakazaki.

Only ten years later, it was placed in the genus Cronobacter (from “Cronos” the titan of Greek mythology that devoured his newborn children).
