There is a lot happening in and around DHS this Spring!
And the weather is starting to look good, so grab the family or a friend and head out to Adams Field, the baseball fields, the softball field, tennis courts or back 40 to cheer on the Warriors!

This Saturday, DHS is hosting the “DHS Invitational” where 17 schools will compete in field and track events. It’s a must-see event for sports enthusiasts and DHS fans. Field events start @ 9am. Track events start @ 11am.

Or if you enjoy the indoors, we’ve got girls badminton, boys gymnastics, boys volleyball, girls water polo and boys water polo matches to check out.

It’s easy to view the entire spring schedule on the DHS Athletics website, https://www.centralsuburbanleague.org/public/genie/210/school/129/

May is also an exciting time for the Booster Club because we start working with new volunteers and transitioning committee positions to interested parents and community members. To learn more about the volunteer positions available, please attend our last meeting of the school year on Tuesday, May 14th. Meetings are typically one hour at DHS in room A100. Everyone is welcome to join the meeting! It's a great starting point for families of incoming freshman to learn more and ask questions. There are so many ways to support DHS Athletics through your involvement in the booster club and a truly fantastic way to support your student-athlete(s).

This time of year is also the perfect opportunity to thank three of our incredible vendors. We couldn’t do what we do without these companies who have supported us for many years.

Alphagraphics Northbrook, 847-317-9001, helps with our printed materials, Booster Club keyfobs, design and creative services and many other important communications projects. Thank you, Dan Sher, Deerfield family.

ARLA Graphics, Deerfield, 847-470-0005, helps create and print our 36 different yard signs, three times a year and does it really fast. Thank you, Lee Bendersky, Deerfield family.

Done Deal Promotions, 847-324-1900, helps design, print and deliver all of our Warrior Spirit Wear. And we do a lot with a lot of options to keep up with the trends and styles our student-athletes, coaches and families love.
Thank you, Verne Reich.
And another huge THANK YOU to our
Community Partner – Endeavor Health!
“Have you heard? NorthShore University Health System is now Endeavor Health. As Illinois’ third largest health system, Endeavor Health delivers world-class care with empathy and compassion. At the Endeavor Health Orthopaedic & Spine Institute, our team of sports specialists includes primary care sports medicine, and pediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine surgeons - all of whom are fellowship - and specialty-trained.

These experts are dedicated to providing comprehensive sports medicine care for athletes of all ages, including pediatric sports injuries, as well as nonsports-related injuries and musculoskeletal care. Our primary care sports medicine team cares for medical issues affecting young athletes, such as concussions, sports physicals, injury prevention, counseling, nutritional concerns and overtraining. If treatment requires surgical care, pediatric and sports medicine surgeons treat injuries, including torn ligaments, tendons and fractures, using the latest minimally invasive techniques. This same team also covers our Orthopaedic & Spine Immediate Care sites, which means musculoskeletal experts are treating pediatric patients even in acute situations.

Your best health—and Warriors athletes’ best health—is our endeavor.”

Temptation for teens to drink alcohol can be higher at events like prom and graduation. To help them have an amazing time while also keeping them safe, DHS parents, local businesses and school staff all come together to offer them DPN's absolutely incredible After Party. That said, a handful of teens may try to sneak some alcohol into their festivities before, after or even during these events. To help you navigate this, CTAD's parent committee compiled these resources for you.

  • Be aware of what teens can use to conceal alcohol and drugs. You know best when your teen/tween is trying to hide something. If you have concerns but can’t quite put your finger on what it is, this video of a mock teen’s bedroom might provide some insight. It shows examples of what might be hiding in plain sight – how common items (deodorant, hair brushes, batteries, etc.) can be used to hide things. While the video may seem overwhelming, keep in mind that most teens are drug-free and don’t have any of these items.
  • Communicate with your teen. Ask what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol or drugs. They make better choices when they have a plan. CTAD's age-appropriate talking tips has suggestions on how to get that conversation started with teens as well as younger students.
  • Communicate with other parents. When you're hosting a party, email guests' parents ahead of time using this sample email to lay the ground rules, reinforce expectations and give peace of mind to other parents. When your teen attends a party, consider advice from local parents in CTAD's Teen Parties: Tips for Parents resource.

For more these resources and more, check out CTAD's Teen-Approved Party Toolkit.
Let your favorite educator and staff members know they have made a difference in your students' lives by Honoring An Educator through a donation to the District 113 Education Foundation. When you Honor An Educator, a letter with your personal message, along with a $5.00 Starbucks gift card will be sent to your favorite teacher(s) and or staff member(s).

Honor An Educator is especially a wonderful way for graduating seniors to thank the educators who inspired them or wrote college recommendation letters this past year. For more information, please visit our website at www.district113foundation.org.
