These Paws Were Made for Walkin'

Join our spokespets - Finn and Tess - on June 1 for our favorite event of the year - PetsWALK!

Presented by VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital, it's a summertime celebration for the whole family - and a chance to meet the two cuties at right, Finn and Tess. The 5K course winds through Poulsbo, ending at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park and our exciting downtown vendor fair. There, you'll find food trucks, live music, games and prizes, and more adorable pets in one place than you've ever seen before!

Visit the PetsWALK website to register and to learn how you can help us meet our $40,000 fundraising goal in the run-up to race day (and win prizes!). Join a team or captain a team - your participation provides support to thousands of animals in Kitsap County so that each pet can be strong, healthy, and adopted into loving homes!

Welcome Dr. Alecia Agner!

Kitsap Humane Society is delighted to welcome our newest veterinarian to the team - Dr. Alecia Agner!

A native of Michigan and graduate of Michigan State University (Go Green!), Alecia knew from a young age that she wanted to be a vet.

"I loved animals and loved science," she said. "So it seemed like the perfect fit. It was the typical 'what do you want to be when you grow up" situation.' I made that dream come true."

A U.S. Army veterinarian for 6-1/2 years, Alecia followed up her military career with a mix of general practice, emergency medicine, and end-of-life care, and is excited to continue her work at KHS.

"The mission at KHS is truly remarkable. This is a place that works to keep families and their pets together, even in the face of financial hardships. The staff here work collaboratively and creatively to save lives. I can't think of anything more rewarding."

We couldn't agree more, Dr. Alecia - welcome to the team!

Changing Lives One Kitten at a Time

It was August of 2022 when KHS volunteer George Luzik adopted out his 4,000th cat. Now, just over a year-and-a-half later, George has reached the 5,000-kitty milestone!

Volunteering for KHS for nearly a dozen years, George is a welcome and warm presence in the Cattery, making sure each feline is matched with the perfect home.

"George is simply amazing," said Volunteer Manager Kelsey Longrie. "He's so kind and so dedicated and always ready to help, whether it's showing a new volunteer the ropes or helping a family find the ideal kitten. We're so lucky to have him on the team."

Thank you, George!

Adorable Adoptables!

We Think He'd Blow Your Mind.

This is Star Boy and he'd like you to come and meet him. He's a sweet and resilient one-year-old Black Mouth Cur with a heart as big as his spirit. He's what they call a tri-pawed pup, but that doesn't slow him down one bit! He's proof that life's challenges can't dull the sparkle of a determined spirit. He excels in the art of giving affection and there's nothing he loves more than showering you with sweet, slobbery kisses. He's the sweetest pup you'll ever meet, and eager to share his affectionate nature with a loving family. If you're ready for a loving and downright adorable companion, he's your Star Boy!

Animal Control is Truckin' in Style!

A big thank you goes out to our friends at the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island, The Norcliffe Foundation, and the Suquamish Foundation - who together with some individual donors, helped us purchase a replacement Animal Control Vehicle.

The truck is a Ford F250 Super Duty rig, outfitted with six air-conditioned medium- and small-animal kennels and one large animal kennel with a hydraulic lift. Along with the newly constructed Big Animal Barn, donated by the Jacobi Family Foundation, the truck will allow us to increase our support services for the community, advance animal lifesaving and public safety, and increase the number of stray or abandoned homeless pets.

The new wheels - which are now adorned with decals calling out our donors - were key to a recent lifesaving operation in which 67 animals were rescued from dire circumstances in Mason County.

Thank you to our Animal Control Officers, and everyone who contributed to this new purchase!

April Adoptions

Every month - thanks to the efforts of our amazing staff and volunteers - we get to watch our furry friends find new homes. We're always happy to see them with their new families, but we still miss them. Happy tails to all of our little (and big) buddies.

In April, 210 pets found loving homes including 82 cats, 59 dogs, 45 kittens, 11 puppies, 8 rabbits, 3 fowl, and a bird named "Pretty Girl."

If you've recently adopted a new family member from KHS, we'd love to hear more! Submit your KHS alum's Happy Tail for a chance to have them featured across our social media platforms!

Help "Drive" Our Spay and Neuter Efforts

One of the many important things Kitsap Humane Society does to benefit the community is through its spay and neuter programs. In fact, in late February, we performed nearly 300 low-cost cat and kitten alterations over the course of just five days, during our "Spay Week."

How can you assist in our efforts? One way is with the purchase of a Spay-Neuter-Adopt Washington State license plate. Display it with pride on your car and help us reduce the number of homeless pets and provide dogs and cats with significant health and behavioral benefits. Plus, it looks cool.

Available for purchase at all Washington State vehicle licensing offices.
