What is a CityKey ID

The CityKey is a valid, government-issued photo identification card available to all Chicago residents regardless of a resident's age, housing status, criminal record, immigration status, or gender identity. The CityKey ID is free for all of Chicago's residents.

The CityKey serves as a four-in-one card by serving as a valid, government-issued ID card, a Chicago Public Library card, a Ventra card, and a pharmaceutical discount card. Additionally, CityKey provides cardholders with discounts to participating museums, theaters, sporting events, restaurants, retail stores, and businesses across Chicago.

As part of the CityKey program, CityKey cardholders can access a prescription discount through a pharmacy benefit management program called the Chicago Rx Card. The Chicago Rx Card will provide discounts on generic and name-brand medications and is a free and easy way to save up to 80% on prescription drugs. It also provides discounts on dental, vision, veterinarian, lab, and diabetes supplies/equipment.

Unity in Variety: Art in Saint Gregory the Great Church on Sunday, June 30

Next Sunday, June 30, St. Gregory will host a special tour of the church's artwork from 10:30 am-12:00 pm at 5545 N. Paulina Ave.

The Norman Gothic beauty Saint Gregory the Great Church is unique for the integrity of its design employing a diversity of artistic styles. The marble statues, hand-carved wooden shrines, polychromed ceiling, jewel stained glass, and other decorative features comprise a survey of the history of sacred art including medieval, neoclassical, pre-raphaelite, art-deco, and folk art styles. In this tour you will learn about the liturgical and decorative art in this Chicago church from a practicing sacred artist.

There is a $25 suggested donation (or pay what you will.) Visit https://www.stgregoryhall.org/unityinvariety.html to learn how to register and for more info.

Parish News

An Update from the Refugee & Immigration Ministry

As you know, we've been working with RefugeeOne since Catholic Charities stepped back from refugee resettlement. Great news! We are all set to support a new family, so as soon as we are matched we can tell you more about them and their story.

We can only continue to do this work due to your generosity, prayers, and support. I looked back and we first started in Fall of 2015, nearly nine years ago. We've welcomed a new family roughly every six months - think of it!

You also might be interested in this story from WBEZ on the challenges and successes of some other migrants to Chicago. After challenging journeys, migrants in Chicago adjust to life in their new city - WBEZ Chicago.

And, finally, June 20 is World Refugee Day. Below is a link to the UN page and also the Chicago World Refugee page.

As the UN states, "World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on 20 June and shines a light on the rights, needs and dreams of those forced to flee."

We hope you'll visit these pages and celebrate the courage and resilience of migrants and refugees. As always, thank you so much for everything you do.

On behalf of the Refugee and Immigration Ministry,

~ Denise Goodman

Growing in Faith: Why Are You So Afraid?

Sooner or later, most of us will find ourselves like the disciples in today’s Gospel passage, feeling like we are in a sinking boat in the middle of a roiling sea, wondering how we will ever “reach the farther shore.”

Perhaps, seemingly out of nowhere, we, or a loved one, are diagnosed with a serious illness. Perhaps we’ve lost our job, or a loved one, or a significant relationship. Perhaps we are paralyzed by the chaos of world events or tension and anger closer to home. When the events of our lives threaten to overwhelm us, causing us to become terrified and afraid, we, like the disciples, may cry out: “Lord, don’t you care that we are going to drown?”

In the midst of the stormy sojourns of our lives, we’re invited to hear the words of Jesus:

“Why are you so terrified? Why is your faith so small?” When we feel like we are

sinking, we’re invited to crawl next to Jesus, allowing him to hold us close, hearing him

whisper: “Quiet. Be still.” We’re reminded that “other boats accompany us” in our

journey, that we are not alone, but that we are on the Way together, and that, together,

we will reach the “farther shore.”

As the poet Denise Levertov writes: “Storm or still, numbed or poised in attention, we inhale, exhale, encompassed, encompassed.” (“In Whom We Live and Move and Have Our Being”)

~ Bob Backis
