The Life of Christ in Trinity’s Stained Glass Windows

February 18 – March 16, 2024

It is simply human to stop noticing what surrounds us all the time, no matter how beautiful and meaningful our environment happens to be. At Trinity Church we have been blessed with beautiful stained glass windows which surround our worship space. The windows depict the life of Jesus, beginning with the Annunciation in the first window on the south side of the nave, continuing through his youth, his ministry, a parable or two, the passion story, and concluding with the Resurrection and Ascension.

The windows contain details that many of us may have missed, since we usually pass the windows on our way to someplace else. We have the opportunity during the season of Lent this year to join Rev. George Chien (UMC, MCC) in studying the windows more closely, learning about the images that have been so familiar for so long. We will gather in the sanctuary at 11:30 on the Sundays of Lent beginning on Sunday, February 18, and George will share his insights about the artistry in the windows as well as the biblical and spiritual context of the images. Please plan to join us for this chance to enrich your Lenten practice.

ADULT CHRISTIAN FORMATION

Foyer Groups

Foyer Groups are small groups of 6-8 persons sharing simple meals and fellowship. The intention is to have fun and provide an opportunity for us to meet each other and to become better acquainted. Each group meets about once a month for a simple meal and relaxed conversation in the homes of members. The meetings usually last about two hours, and groups schedule the meetings at times convenient for them.

Each group will be assigned a Convener, who will contact members of the group to arrange an initial meeting. After that meeting, it will be up to the group to arrange the time and place of their meetings. Members usually take turns hosting the group if they are able. The groups will meet until everyone who would like to host has had an opportunity to do so. Anyone who isn’t able to host is still most welcome to participate.

If you would like to be part of a Foyer Group, you will be able to sign up in person this coming Sunday, after both the 8:00 am and 10:00 am services. Look for the table in Goodwin Hall.

If you are unable to sign up in person you may leave a voicemail message with Marsha Adell at (860) 578-4578. State your name, telephone number (cell or home) and email address and how you prefer to be contacted (telephone call, text message, or email).

Godly Play – March Gathering Dates

We will have class March 10 and March 17

No class on March 3; March 24, Palm Sunday; or March 31, Easter

Trinity's Book Group's current selection is the nonfiction book What is Life? by Paul Nurse, “the Nobel prize-winning scientist's elegant explanation of the fundamental ideas in biology and their uses today.” Anne Rapkin and Steve Zhitnik will host the meeting at their home on March 1st, 7:00-9:00 pm. All are welcome to attend! Please let Anne or Steve know if you're coming. (anne.rapkin at gmail.com; s.zhitnik at snet.net) The meeting begins with refreshments and then launches into lively discussions.

Companions of the Holy Cross Quiet Day

Saturday, March 2, 2024

The Companions of the Holy Cross invite you to a Quiet morning at St. Albans Church, Simsbury. Our chaplain, The Rev. John Van Siclin will lead us from 9:45-1:00. Lunch is included. Here is his description of our time together:

The motifs of journey and pilgrimage have a long association with the season of Lent. We begin with Jesus’ temptations in the wilderness and stop at various locations that eventually lead us to Calvary and the Cross. Two of the pilgrims I have come to know closely as companions in prayer on my spiritual journey are Bartimaeus from the Gospel of Mark (10:46-52) and a rabbi who appears in the fable “The Rabbi’s Gift” handed down and presented in the prologue of “The Different Drum” by M. Scott Peck.

The quiet day will be divided in two parts. Each part will have a reflection ending with questions that can be a part of a time of individual quiet reflection. The last presentation will also include a time for sharing and insights. A simple lunch of soups and bread will be provided.

Contact Kate Smith at Kate48smith at comcast.net for details.

Barbara Roos will be out of the office on vacation from Friday, March 8 and returning Monday, March 18.

Any concerns with access to the building, etc. please contact Vinnie at vpacileo at Trinityhartford.org.

Bulletins for Sunday, March 18 will be prepared and printed by Thursday, March 7.

Please have any information you’d like included to Barbara (office at trinityhartford.org ) by Tuesday, March 5.

Thanks so much!

TRINITY GHIAA HOUSE MEETING

MARCH 10, 2024 – 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

As you may have seen from our eVoice and Sunday bulletins, Trinity Church is co-hosting a House Meeting with our GHIAA partner Grace Lutheran Church of Hartford at Trinity Church on March 10 at 2 pm. This is part of our work through the Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA). During the House Meeting, we will break into small groups of people to share a personal story about an experience that concerns us. This House Meeting process is how GHIAA identifies the issues that are chosen for a social justice action campaign.

You can access the meeting by registering on GHIAA’s website using this link:

GHIAA House Meeting Registration 2024

docs.google.com

You will see Trinity Church listed as one of the member organizations hosting a House Meeting. Select that location and you will receive a confirmation.

Trinity and Grace Church have set a goal of having at least 40 attendees. This number was created to reach enough people to accurately understand the experiences and concerns of our members. This same process is happening with GHIAA organizations across Greater Hartford until April. Our stories will shape GHIAA’s next Issue Platform.

If you have any questions please reach out to or one of our core team who are listed below. You may select another house meeting session on the registration link if you are unable to attend in person on March 10 at Trinity.

There will be further announcements during the 10 AM service this week.

We look forward to seeing you at our first House Meeting on March 10!
