Proposed Changes to WSAE Bylaws
The Board of Directors conducts regular reviews of the bylaws and recommends changes based on the needs of the organization. With the growth of the organization and an increase of activity from young professionals, the bylaw changes are being submitted to the membership for review. Please review the bylaws and be prepared to vote on the proposed changes at the October 31 membership meeting being held in conjunction with the WSAE Summit.

Below is a summary of changes that would be made to Article VII, Section 2:
  1. The elimination of a maximum of one industry partner is being proposed because the current restriction means that the industry partner position turns over only once every three years. Our industry partners are an important part of the association and there are many industry partners that are qualified and would like the opportunity to contribute to the association at the Board level. This revision would allow for additional industry partners to have a voice at this level of the organization. This does not mandate an increase, but allows for an increase.
  2. The addition of one young professional member to the Board of Directors. This position shall be appointed by the Chair and serve a one year term. The Board would like to have the ability to appoint one young professional so that their views are heard as we plan for the future. They make up an important segment of our membership and are vital to the future growth of our organization.
Thank you for taking the time to review these bylaw changes.

Striking Solutions - Thursday, December 7, 2017

Are you game? Pin down December 7 on your calendar and join our league of association professionals and industry partners where you'll participate in a formal session of WSAE's Solutions Network. We'll then use our spare time for a  fun, and slightly competitive, end-of-year bowling celebration. Spoke leaders will provide updates on accomplishments and challenges faced over the past year and answer your questions. Then, you'll have a chance to score some valuable information as you select your favorite spoke or split your time between spokes. The Solutions Network is the place for members to ask questions, seek solutions, and discover new trends and practices.  We'll have a ball!

The event will be held at the Village Bowl in Menomonee Falls. Participation is worth 1.5 credits toward CAE application or renewal.
Professional Development

2018 Winter IOM

For over 95 years, Institute for Organization Management, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's professional development program for non-profit executives, has educated association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers. Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become stronger business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you will earn points towards your CCE or CAE certification as Institute's curriculum is directly tied to the bodies of knowledge of both the American Society of Association Executives and the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence. The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.

Early registration deadline for Winter Institute is November 17th.

Examples of employee engagement benchmarks

We are looking for benchmark data on employee engagement, ideally from the association industry. Appreciate any leads or information.

How do business acquisitions affect membership?

I've become interested in the trend of business acquisitions and mergers in the U.S. and I'm currently researching how trade associations are handling membership fluctuations when companies keep consolidating within an industry. How is this accelerating trend affecting your association--membership or otherwise? What strategies do you recommend when the membership is declining due to one industry company merging or acquiring another?
