Director's Message

Dear SENTRY Community,

In recent months, SENTRY has closely engaged our network of researchers, students, staff, and a growing list of industry and academic partners in our work. Looking ahead, I am working closely with SENTRY researchers and administrators to prepare for our Biennial Review on March 13, 2024.

Michael B. Silevitch

The Biennial Review is a chance to demonstrate the unique value of our projects as we seek to address knowledge gaps not currently addressed by other Department of Homeland Security research and development programs. My thanks to you, our SENTRY family, for your focus and cooperation as we work to showcase our research and potential to better secure soft targets and crowded places. Read on to learn more about SENTRY's latest happenings.

SENTRY Welcomes

New Research Projects in 2024

In response to our 2023 Call for Proposals, SENTRY welcomes five new research projects to our center. Selected based on their proposed methodology and relevance to our mission, each project will contribute to one of our fundamental research areas to enhance security for soft targets and crowded places.

Join the DHS Peers Program and be a catalyst for change in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. SENTRY, with funding from the DHS S&T Office of University Programs, is partnering with the NSF INCLUDES Engineering PLUS Alliance and its stEm PEER Academy to engage a cadre of 2024 DHS PEERs. These PEERs, working closely with the DHS Centers of Excellence and their affiliated partners, will implement evidence-based practices to increase the number of BIPOC and women students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering and other STEM disciplines.

If you're passionate about this cause, don't miss the chance to apply for the 2024-2025 stEm PEER Academy. Admitted applicants to this two-year program will be informed no later than April 17, 2024. Each PEER will receive a $1,000 stipend for participating and $10,000 to fund their Implementation Project. Learn more about DHS PEERs and apply before March 20, 2024.
