44 Nevada County Habitat houses have been built across 7 neighborhoods in Western Nevada County. 66 adults and 134 children have benefited from Habitat housing. Currently, 25 Habitat Homeowners are single parents. 6 homeowners own small businesses. 5 homeowners work in healthcare. 4 homeowners work for nonprofits. 3 homeowners work for the county. 2 homeowners work in insurance. 2 homeowners are retired.
One homeowner worked in a hair salon when she applied for a Habitat house. She subsequently went to nursing school and is now the director of nursing at a local long-term care facility.
Another expresses that without her Habitat home, she wouldnโt have had the confidence or energy to apply for a promotion โ which she got.
One homeowner credits having a Habitat home with helping him graduate from college.
Several homeowners have said that stable and affordable housing made them able to pursue their dream of owning a business.
Becoming a Habitat homeowner can also positively impact the extended family. Many homeowners are giving their extended families a hand up by supporting their parents, grandchildren, or nieces and nephews.
Habitat homeowners also contribute to the strength of our local economy by owning homes, paying property taxes, and by working for and shopping at local businesses.
