Home is the key to healthy and vibrant communities and Habitat builds affordable homes for those who need a helping hand.

What does it mean when we say Habitat increases affordable housing opportunities for low-income households?

Say Hello to David Simmons, our new ReStore General Manager

โ€Š

David joined the Restore staff as a Donations associate and driver last year, and recently took the helm as General Manager this April.

He and his family have lived in the area for 8 months now, and absolutely love it here. David spent 35+ years managing restaurants in the Bay Area before seeking out a simpler more meaningful life and career. When the opportunity to buy his dream home in these beautiful foothills became reality, he and his wife jumped at the chance, moving into their four-horse ranch in September of 2023.

David loves running around with his 3 dogs, working in his workshop, gardening, and spending time with his wife of 34 years, daughter, and grandson. He and his wife love to travel, and have been to almost every national park in the West.

Stop by the Restore and say hi to David and his amazing Team!

โ€œI am so excited to go to work for this amazing Restore staff and the greater Grass Valley community here. So many new things to show, I ๏ปฟhope everyone drops by to see some of the changes, and say hello!โ€ -David

๏ปฟFACTS ABOUT LOCAL HABITAT HOUSEHOLDS:

Homeowners are our valued partners in the Habitat enterprise. Their mortgage payments support the growth of our construction and homeownership program.

44 Nevada County Habitat houses have been built across 7 neighborhoods in Western Nevada County. 66 adults and 134 children have benefited from Habitat housing. Currently, 25 Habitat Homeowners are single parents. 6 homeowners own small businesses. 5 homeowners work in healthcare. 4 homeowners work for nonprofits. 3 homeowners work for the county. 2 homeowners work in insurance. 2 homeowners are retired.

One homeowner worked in a hair salon when she applied for a Habitat house. She subsequently went to nursing school and is now the director of nursing at a local long-term care facility.

Another expresses that without her Habitat home, she wouldnโ€™t have had the confidence or energy to apply for a promotion โ€“ which she got.

One homeowner credits having a Habitat home with helping him graduate from college.

Several homeowners have said that stable and affordable housing made them able to pursue their dream of owning a business.

Becoming a Habitat homeowner can also positively impact the extended family. Many homeowners are giving their extended families a hand up by supporting their parents, grandchildren, or nieces and nephews.

Habitat homeowners also contribute to the strength of our local economy by owning homes, paying property taxes, and by working for and shopping at local businesses.

Habitat Homeowners are incredibly resilient. We thank them for their partnership in helping to build a positive and strong Habitat Community!
