There is Massive Value in Creative Thinking and Imaginative Play....yet it's missing in our community.

In educational environments it's common for children to learn through games and alternative learning tools. In both homes and schools, it's common to find puzzles, games, and toys geared towards education and play.

However, students in the MdC community experience something very different. It's typical for students to rely exclusively on pen, paper, and textbooks for their education. The majority of families don't even have tables, forget about a toy specifically geared towards creative play. Simple tasks like completing a puzzle are impossible when you don't have a table to put the pieces together on.

Due to this lack of games, our students struggle with grasping concepts like competition; they are averse to the idea of the tower collapsing or engaging in competitive actions. This highlights the significance of integrating games into the classroom environment.

We want to create a comprehensive learning environment for our families. One where creative thinking is fostered. An environment where students have access to learning tools and educational games. It's so important that we actually have a teacher whose focus is to teach games. This teacher puts together various games and learning tools, instructing both our teachers and students how to play them.

Community Story

At a recent Super Saturday event, we introduced puzzles to our families. While puzzles are a common pastime for many families, the adults in our community found themselves surprisingly challenged. Puzzle pieces were assembled haphazardly, with edge pieces placed in the middle. This highlighted a significant point: without early exposure to educational tools like puzzles, these skills are not easily acquired later in life. Puzzles develop critical thinking skills which have many applications in life, and the long-term impact of this lack of exposure is profound.

Benefits of Stem Toys

To cultivate a desire in children to address challenges, it's crucial to nurture their critical thinking skills. Merely imparting knowledge isn't sufficient; they need to internalize it and make it their own.

Engage with STEM early on

Toys are made to be enjoyable, so they can help demystify STEM subjects and remove some of the intimidation that some children experience when learning.

Make learning fun and build confidence

They can make subjects like math fun for children that struggle with numbers, allowing them to see problems from a different perspective and come up with creative ways of problem-solving. This can really improve confidence in their school learning.

Improve fine motor skills

A lot of STEM toys require hand-eye coordination to work effectively. They can require building, constructing, model-making and balancing. This is an unfamiliar concept to children in our community.

Boost cognitive skills and creative thinking

The act of playing with STEM toys stimulates critical areas in the developing child's brain. Improved cognitive and decision-making skills, problem-solving and memory are all reported areas of benefit. Not only do STEM toys boost cognitive skills, but they foster creativity as children have to work to explore alternative solutions while solving complex problems.
