A Note from the Director
Hello summer!
As we welcome the summer solstice later this month, we also think of the many things we have to accomplish in the long days of summer; field studies, meeting travel, coordinating camps for childcare, and extended family vacations are likely among them. I hope that you will take time to relax, enjoying a clear starry night, a good book (or journal article!), and a cold beverage. I am personally amazed at how quickly my tomatoes and my 4 month-old grandson grew this year!
Recently the Center's IAB voted to purchase several items that will be available to Center members to further their research. These items include an Absolute Q digital PCR machine (linked to a QuantStudio6 in room 208 Toxicology), two gentleMACS octo single cell/nuclei preparation apparatus (in Clark Labs and 208 Tox), a maintenance agreement for QuantStudio 3 with high use in Tox building, additional RAM and storage for Dereje's computer, a portable XRF for soil workshop and field use, and 3 sets of air sensors for the EHD and CC&AC RIGs. We also purchased a Cytek Aurora CS cell sorter (https://cytekbio.com/pages/aurora-cs) that will be housed, maintained, and run by staff in a single cell sequencing core in the CVM. More details on this core should be available by the time we have our mini-retreat later this summer (see below). Training on these new pieces of equipment will begin soon (see the calendar), so please send someone from your lab if you have an interest.
As a final note, we will make business card purchases soon. Please complete this form by June 14th if you want them. They are customizable and do not have to include all of the items shown. Leave the lines blank if not applicable.
I hope your summer is off to a great start!
