Surgeon and Basic Scientists Partner to Develop New Way to Suss out Early Problems in Liver Transplantation

A liver transplant can be a lifesaving procedure for people with cirrhosis, some cancers and acute liver failure, but there are many potential complications. Now, a unique collaboration between basic scientists at Georgetown University Medical Center and a transplant surgeon at MedStar Health could change how and when problems are identified, leading to expedited treatment and significantly reducing the need for additional testing.

Submit Preliminary Materials to Apply for MacArthur 100&Change Competition by July 8

The MacArthur Foundation has announced the launch of a new round of its global 100&Change competition for a single $100 million grant designed to fund a proposal that promises real, measurable progress in solving a critical problem. The proposal and budget requirements for this competition are significantly demanding and time consuming with a lengthy, multi-phase timeline that extends through December 2025 and Georgetown will provide one proposal with administrative and institutional support. To be considered, applicants must submit preliminary materials to the nomination committee by July 8. Visit this website to learn more about Georgetown’s internal application process.

Accelerating Research Translation Grant: Workshop on June 27, LOI Due July 18

Georgetown is preparing to apply for an Accelerating Research Translation (ART) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). If awarded, the grant will support a number of seed translational research projects with up to $150,000 per project over two years. If you have a proven innovation ready to move to the translational stage that you would like to be considered for inclusion in the ART grant application, please submit a letter of intent (LOI) by 5:00 p.m. on July 18 to the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) using this form.

Request for Applications: GHUCCTS KL2 Junior Faculty Scholars Program

The Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (GHUCCTS) is requesting applications for KL2 awards. Full applications are due August 5 with an anticipated appointment date in October 2024. Learn more here.

DML’s Intro to Data Cleaning with Python and Jupyter Notebooks

This workshop demonstrates how to use Python to automate data cleaning processes.  Learn how to read common data types into Python using Pandas, a widely used library for manipulating data, as well as how to use Jupyter Notebooks for project documentation. No prior coding experience necessary, but we recommend installing Anaconda before the workshop.
