State Bar Committees Seek Volunteers for Openings

The State Bar of Nevada is looking for qualified individuals to fill open positions on the Clients Security Fund and the Lawyer Advertising Advisory Committee.

The Clients’ Security Fund (CSF) Committee has an open attorney position. The committee is responsible for making financial resources available to reimburse victims of attorney theft. Attorney committee members investigate 10 to 15 claims filed with the CSF each year. All committee members analyze the claims to determine if attorney fees were earned and/or if attorney theft took place, evaluate the ongoing financial condition of the CSF, and approve or deny reimbursement requests in accordance with these factors. The application period closes May 16.

The Lawyer Advertising Advisory Committee has an open position. The committee meets once per month to review attorney advertisements submitted pursuant to bar regulations and renders advance advisory opinions upon request. Because much of the review and communication will be online, the best candidates should be proficient with computers, e-mail, and internet use. Committee members are appointed by the Board of Governors to two-year terms. The application period closes May 16.

Legal Aid Center Starts Legal Legends Program

After the Nevada Supreme Court passed ADKT 623, which waives the CLE requirements for inactive and out-of-state attorneys practicing pro bono work under the State Bar of Nevada’s Emeritus Program, the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada started a new program called Legal Legends.

The Legal Legends Program is designed for retired attorneys. The program engages and values the unique wisdom that experienced lawyers bring to our community and enables retired attorneys not actively licensed in Nevada to take pro bono cases. To join, sign up here.

The Emeritus Program allows inactive and out-of-state attorneys to do pro bono with a legal aid organization, including Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.
