Trail of the Month:

May Creek Park & Trail

May Creek Park & Trail offers a scenic journey through Newcastle’s rich history and natural beauty. Once a vital coal transport route, this 3.5-mile trail now winds through a lush, forested gorge along May Creek, Lake Washington’s third-largest tributary. The soothing sounds of flowing water and rustling leaves create a peaceful escape.

The trail comes alive in the spring with wildlife and budding trees, making it an ideal time to explore. Wooden bridges, historical remnants, and a vintage 1950s van-turned-educational display add to its charm. With well-maintained switchbacks leading to the creek and connections to trails in The Highlands and Cougar Mountain Park, May Creek Trail is a perfect blend of nature, history, and recreation.

Access points include SE 93rd Street in Windtree, Coal Creek Parkway, and SE May Creek Park Drive.
