With substantial contributions from Georgetown’s School of Health, MedStar Health has released its 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment, a comprehensive examination of local health needs conducted every three years as mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Addressing topics including animal models in aging research, social determinants of aging and health, and advances in biomedical aging research, more than 100 medical and biomedical students, faculty and postdocs from Georgetown and other universities gathered for the 3rd Annual Healthy Aging Symposium.

Pharmacology & Physiology Student is Georgetown’s First HHMI Gilliam Fellow

In July, Pharmacology & Physiology doctoral student Lindsey Russ became Georgetown University’s first recipient of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Gilliam Fellowship, which “invests in graduate trainees who are committed to advancing equity and inclusion in science and empowers them as future science leaders.” Her mentor is Rebekah Evans, M.Ed., Ph.D.

Deadline Approaching: Submit LOIs for Accelerating Research Translation Grant by July 18

Georgetown is preparing to apply for an Accelerating Research Translation (ART) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). If awarded, the grant will support a number of seed translational research projects with up to $150,000 per project over two years. If you have a proven innovation ready to move to the translational stage that you would like to be considered for inclusion in the ART grant application, please submit a letter of intent (LOI) by 5:00 p.m. on July 18 to the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) using this form.

Request for Applications: GHUCCTS KL2 Junior Faculty Scholars Program

The Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (GHUCCTS) is requesting applications for KL2 awards. Full applications are due August 5 with an anticipated appointment date in October 2024. Learn more here.

Call for Applications: GUMC Faculty Wellness Group Coaching Program

All GUMC faculty are welcome to apply for the GUMC Faculty Wellness Group Coaching Program, an opportunity to receive group coaching designed to support faculty wellness and enhance career satisfaction and engagement. The program will consist of six 90-minute sessions led by a certified coach held 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. every other week starting September 30. 


The fall 2024 program is now open for applications for 2-3 groups of 5-10 participants in each group. Applications are due August 16. Please contact ofaa@georgetown.edu with any questions.
