BATES BLAST

A huge thank you to our Book Fair and Ski Trip memory makers!

Stacey Percia and Anne Orloff, along with their volunteers, for the amazing experience our students had at the Book Fair! We raised money for our school and, at least in our homes, the kiddos came back filled with excitement over books—and a few fun finds (those sports posters and smelly gummy bear erasers though!) We loved catching up with other parents and watching the kids shop as we volunteered.

Caitlin Sateia, Laura Benson and Megan Keefe, words are not enough to thank you! This year's ski weekend, like the prior two, was incredible! The set up could not have been easier, families didn't touch their car from Friday to Sunday thanks to the slopeside accommodations. Everyone had a blast, the rush from healthy outdoor time, kids free-skiing with friends, littles in lessons, apres-fun, heated outdoor pool and hot tub hangs, ticketed Bates pizza party and DJ (complete with thoughtful dietary options), hotel movie night, line-free runs on Sunday, and of course... the arcade. Sign us up for next year! Becoming a Bates alumni and wanting to stay on the ski trip list? Email BatesPTOevents@gmail.com. We’d love to have you back!

If anyone is interested in helping to plan this time honored Bates event for next year (really it’s just the Saturday evening dinner), we can connect you with the pros for tips and tricks. Best of all, your own spin/location is welcome.

All Parent PTO Meeting Recap

Thanks to Kim Stott, we were fully caffeinated with Tatte and greeted with an aesthetically pleasing display of neatly packed donuts for kiddos.

We heard how you can make a difference in our community by helping prepare young women of color for college through Wellesley A Better Chance (ABC), a non-profit that has been part of our community for 53 years. They’re seeking volunteers for their impactful residential scholarship program. ABC’s mission is to increase the number of well-educated women of color in leadership roles. Scholars attend Wellesley High School and have a 99% college graduation rate. Volunteer opportunities include academic advisors, host families, publicity, drivers, board members, and more (read more about volunteer opportunities). For more information, visit www.wellesleyabc.org or email office@wellesleyabc.org.

From Kate Stanley and Marisa Cheung, we learned how to support our child’s social emotional health. They shared tips for helping kids manage anxiety as they ride the wave without removing the triggers.

Kelly Norris shared that the Advisory Committee passed Article 18 with a 14-0 vote (read: they support a study examining how to implement AC in the different schools.) The next step is theTown Meeting vote on Article 18. Kelly shared that now is a good time to share your personal stories with Town Meeting. Resending emails shared with Advisory is welcome (contact Town Meeting Members).

We hope you enjoy the next three full weeks of school!

Join Bates in Giving Back!

Cocotree Kids has a mission to protect a child’s dignity and confidence starting with their first layer: underwear. Underwear is one of the most needed but least donated items to shelters and youth-focused organizations because it needs to be new. Kids without underwear access resort to reusing soiled underwear, wearing hand-me-downs that don’t fit, or simply wear nothing at all. With your help, we can provide their first layer of support and help them feel confident and comfortable to tackle their road ahead.

DONATING IS EASY

Place new underwear for boys and girls, sizes 2T-16, in the Cocotree Kids collection box near the Bates front entrance from 3/3-3/14!
