Programs for your classroom:

Last month we told you about PA Civics, of which the Committee of Seventy is a lead organizer. PA Civics is a coalition of former elected officials and nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations with a mission to support, promote, and expand civics education in Pennsylvania.

The coalition's membership has almost doubled over the last year, which has resulted in more high-quality teaching resources, professional development opportunities, and educational events for educators to use.

PACivics.org is continually updating; it now contains seven different teaching and learning pathways that are aligned to the Pennsylvania state standards and the Educating for American Democracy Roadmap. Mix and match these free resources to fit any age group and grade level from Pre-K to College.

Civic Learning Week, March 11-15

C70 will be celebrating Civic Learning Week, March 11 - 15, along with our PA Civics partners. Hosted by iCivics, Civic Learning Week is an annual celebration to highlight the importance of civic education in sustaining and strengthening constitutional democracy in the United States. C70 is proud to be a champion-level partner this year.

Stay tuned for updates on events, including a set of professional learning webinars about C70’s educational materials with special guests. Subscribe to the PA Civics Event Calendar to stay up-to-date with the latest civic education programming in the Commonwealth.

Join your fellow teachers in guiding civics policies

PA Civics is a proud supporter of Teachers Advancing Civic Learning (TACL), a project developed by the CivXNow Coalition to form a grassroots network of educators who can help inform and advance civic learning policies at the state, local, and federal levels. Activities will include email writing, signing onto letters of support, and other actions. CivXNow will also provide opportunities for thorough training, empowering you to take more complex actions like speaking with your legislator or school board.

Join professionals in advocating for civic learning across K-12 education by signing up today.

Get STAR cards for your students

If you have not yet seen our STAR cards helping young students to discuss civics, we are excited to share them directly with educators. They are designed for students in grades K-8, but they make for good opening prompts for any individual, students or adults.

Email us to request your own free copy(ies). Or share them with the elementary and middle school teachers and parents in your life.
