SUMMER GRASS TIPS!

Keep your Pearl's Premium lawn looking lush

• Water deeply and infrequently to promote deepest root growth and to out-compete weeds & high maintenance grasses. In hotter southern and western climates, periodic watering may be required. Also, in the first year of a newly planted Pearl's Premium lawn during periods of extreme heat or drought, water deeply (3/4-inch of water) twice per week. Avoid watering from 11am to 1pm during the hottest part of the day. Never water at night to avoid mold.

• Mow the grass taller, ideally 3.5 or 4-inches tall to maximize roots and shade the soil, to prevent weed seeds on the soil such as crab grass and other annual weeds from sprouting. Tall, thick grass not only has fewer weeds, but also grows slower and needs less water and mowing. Mow 3.5 or 4-inches tall, ideally with a sharp blade. A dull blade will tear the grass, exposing it to disease.

• If you have clover, your grass is low on nutrients. Spread a small amount of organic fertilizer and the clover will die back slowly. For faster die back, sprinkle a small amount of table sugar over the organic fertilizer.

• Hydroseed if you want to plant now during the hot months - plant up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit with this method. Or purchase now, and wait until fall to plant. Keep your seed in a container, away from mice, in a cool area such as a basement, or indoors with air conditioning.
