Coffee Hour Fellowship

Every Sunday

From The Pastor's Desk:

What Is Lord of Life

Lutheran Church?

If we took a poll of members and our neighbors, I am pretty sure we would get a long list of adjectives to describe our congregation. Perhaps some would choose to describe an institution, others might describe the people who make up the church. When we seek to understand our calling from God, who we are and who we belong to, we turn to scripture. It is our source of faith and life in Christ. Paul addresses this very question in his first letter to the church in Corinth. These words are from the great 12th chapter:

"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body...Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.”

Paul illustrates this understanding with many examples, but the vision boils down to this - though we are many, we are called to be one body. We share one baptism, one faith, one Lord - we are called to be one, united, together. Of course, it’s the Spirit which does all this. As Luther points out in his Small Catechism, the Spirit “Calls, gathers, enlightens, and makes holy the whole Christian Church on earth”.

I find this to be a source of great comfort. It is a lasting hope in a world that pulls us in many directions. It gives me a deep peace in knowing my life is connected with all of you, and that together we are connected with Jesus. I hope you do, too.

All this is to remind us all that “the church” exists to uphold and sustain each of us, a tremendous gift of life and light we offer to a broken and fallen world. We need each other just as we need Jesus. We are a family of faith, and family needs to be together, and to support and care for each other.

Let us continue to gather, and if you have been away for a while, it’s time to return. We gather to worship and be lifted up. We gather to grow stronger and deeper in faith and life. We gather for fellowship and share life together. We gather to serve because we follow Jesus. We gather because we are one.

I look forward to seeing you soon! May your journey be filled with blessings!

Wednesdays,

10:00 AM At Church

A Message From David Dugan, Bible Study Leader:

May 8th:

The Rich Young Man - Mark 10:17-31

Hagar - Genesis 16:1-15

(Sandwiches For The Christian Caring Center)

Helping Hands is a monthly ministry to make sandwiches for the homeless served by Christian Caring Center. It meets the last Wednesday of each month. We form an assembly line and make about 200 sandwiches in an hour. Jobs are easy – putting meat and cheese on a roll, placing sandwiches in a baggie, counting the sandwiches, and putting them in a grocery bag. Everyone gets a small, easy task and a lot gets done quickly while we share some time together. We keep everyone safe by wearing gloves and masks, spacing ourselves, and venting the room. All are invited to join us! If you have any questions, please contact Sue Dreisbach. A link to her email is below.

MORE Athletic Shoe Collection

MORE stands for Modular Organic Regenerative Environments. The group is 100% funded by recycling athletic shoes, keeping them out of landfills. Donated shoes are sold to participating vendors in developing countries. Proceeds regenerate forests and jump start small farming co-ops in needy regions. This creates retail jobs while stimulating free enterprise. MORE provides basic supplies, tools, seeds (fruit-bearing mango, papaya, avocado and income producing mahogany), and agroforestry training to poor farming families, school children and rural villages.

You can contribute your used sneakers or athletic shoes by placing them in the collection box located in the church entryway. Please sneaker-type used footwear only, no dress or other shoes.

Saturday, June 8th

You are welcome to visit Cross Roads Camp & Retreat Center for one of their open houses this spring! Learn all about summer and year-round opportunities. Take a tour of camp, hear stories about summer camp, ask questions of our staff, and finish with a delicious lunch in the dining hall.

These are especially great opportunities for families interested in sending their children to camp for the first time (or attending Family Camp together) or for retreat leaders interested in one of our many buildings that are open year-round. These tours start at 10:30 AM from the Lodge and conclude after lunch at noon. Please register by the Monday before the date attending.

Taxpayers who are 70 1/2 or older can transfer up to $100,000 from a

traditional IRA tax-free to charity each year. The "qualified charitable

distribution" will count as your required minimum distribution without being added to your adjusted gross income! One of our Lord of Life church members is already taking advantage of this. Read all about it in the links

Continuing Your Contributions:
Your continuing financial support is essential to maintain the Ministries of Lord Of Life. Offerings are being collected at all church services. If you are still not attending services at our church building, your contribution can be mailed to the church (1 Winchester Court, Tabernacle, NJ 08088). Both Simply Giving and Tithe.ly remain in place for all to use.
Something new has been added to make it easier for you to contribute to Lord of Life using your cell phone! Simply scan the QR code below with your cell phone, and you will be able to make a donation using Tithe.ly.
(More information about these electronic ways to contribute can be found on the church's website. The link is below.)

LifeLines Ending Song:

This traditional gospel folk tune possibly originated at the time of the Civil War. Its oldest known recording was done in 1927. It has been performed by countless artists over the years and is still popular today. This version is sung by Andy Griffith. Enjoy!
