Bits of History From Our Building's Past For Your Information
Did you know that the Genuine Georgia building has a fascinating history? Once a bustling two-story wooden hotel known as The Statham Hotel, it was renowned for hosting the prettiest ladies of the evening and offering the best horse hay in the state at its livery stable. Imagine the vibrant atmosphere of Greensboro's frontier days within those walls! After a devastating fire, the hotel was reconstructed using locally sourced handmade bricks, typically three bricks thick, resulting in a single-story structure. Jan Whyllson, a local folk artist, captured the essence of this historic period in Greensboro's history with her vivid painting of The Statham Hotel. Take a closer look at Jan's artwork to discover the intriguing characters and lively scenes that once filled downtown Greensboro in the 1800s!
