“I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your impurities, and from all your idols, I will cleanse you. A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you, and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within,”

Ezekiel 36:25-27 NRSV.

We are Powerless. God is Not.

Like Pastor David’s sermon, this could easily be retitled “There is Power in the Blood.” We all feel powerless at times—maybe we feel that way now—but we are largely powerless unto ourselves. Yes, we can try to make some changes in our lives. Many have written very popular books on effecting change, and they seem to have some great ideas.

However, just using a book and expecting large measurable changes in our lives is often not achievable. We need Jesus. An amazing transformation can occur by drawing on the power of Jesus and directing it for positive change.

Pastor David touched on AA. The first two steps outline the principles I am talking about: “1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable. 2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

Knowing people who have struggled in the past, I can vouch for the transformative, seemingly miraculous, power of these two simple steps when the third step was added in:

3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

Jesus is paramount for true positive change in the minor and major aspects of our lives. With God, our hope is restored, and things that we only dreamed of are within our grasp.
