MONDAY 5/6

WDIY Classics

Our musical travels this morning take us from the stately musings of William Boyce, Master of the King's Musick under George II of Great Britain, to the Brazilian soundscape of Heitor Villa-Lobos: from Handel’s Organ Concertos, designed to drum up interest from the fickle London public in his oratorio performances, to Rachmaninoff’s glorious 3rd Symphony, premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1936: and from the accomplished orchestral work of Mme. Louise Farrenc, determined and resourceful composer and pianist in mid-19th Century Paris, to the engaging music of Sor and Ponce for the classical guitar.
