A Note on Security

In response to the growing need for enhanced security, we have implemented a comprehensive security plan that includes restricted entry points, the installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, and regular private security details on Shabbat and Yom Tov. For the coming weeks, we have engaged members of the Providence Police Department to provide security details and area patrols on Shabbat, for special events, and when our religious school is in session.

These efforts reflect Temple Emanu-El's unwavering commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all who worship within its walls, ensuring that faith and community can thrive without fear.

THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!

Programming for arts and culture at the Jewish Alliance will resume after Pesach with the screening of a multiple-award-winning film, SHTTL, a beautiful recreation of a European shtetl; and a mindful and sculptural challah bake with our artist-in-residence, Zo Baker. In the meantime, for those who were planning on entering artwork into our upcoming community art exhibit or being a vendor at the upcoming Jewish Culture Fest, the deadlines are this Monday! An extension can be made but it must be requested ASAP.

SHTTL film screening

Thursday, May 9, 6:30pm at Dwares JCC. $8 members, $10 non-members.

In this multiple award-winning film, a filmmaker returns from Kyiv to his rural village to marry the love of his life. He is expected to marry the Rabbi’s daughter, which disrupts the balance of the whole town. In one unflinching shot, this film presents a day in the life of a Jewish village before it disappears. Directed by Ady Walter, Ukraine, 2023. Yiddish with subtitles, 109 Minutes. [ watch the trailer ]

Challah Bake! Sculpture and Symbolism Through Baking

Thursday, May 16th, 6-8pm at Dwares JCC. $15 members, $20 non-members.

Join artist-in-residence Zo Baker for a challah bake unlike any other. In this workshop participants are invited to think about challah through the lenses of mindfulness and sustainability. We’ll connect each ingredient to Jewish values and symbolism and come away with new relationships to how we eat and create with intentionality and care. Participants are invited to use the dough like clay to form shapes and structures that tell stories and to consider the architecture of the divine and the everyday. Participants will leave with dough to bring home, build, and bake, and their own hand-made sculptural mini challahs. All ages welcome!
