Grand Knight's Report
Dear Brother Knights,

Here is the report for April 2024. With the Fish Fry’s behind us I thought things would kind of slow down, however, April was another busy month. On Saturday, April 6th we held the District Master’s Meeting and this was kind of a small-scale State Meeting. During the meeting an election was held to replace the District Master who happens to be our Council’s very own Brad Burnett. The top three candidates who received the most votes will move on in the selection process. The election is the first part of the process and Supreme will decide in August 2024 who the next District Master will be. Then on the following day, Sunday, April 7th, we had our Sunday Breakfast and it benefitted the Grounds Beautification Ministry.

On April 8th, we held our membership meeting. BK Joe Molyson who is from Louisiana prepared some delicious red beans and rice that we all enjoyed. During our April meeting we tabled a motion to donate a portion of our Fish Fry Dinner profits to our Church. The tabled motion will be voted during the May membership meeting on May 13th. We are very grateful to our Church and I’m proud to say that the Knights are giving something back to the St. John Neumann Parish Community.
On Saturday, April 27th, the Knights helped with the SMILE (Saint Mary’s Independent Living Extension) 5K run. This is an annual run that PGK Houston Feaster supported and since his passing the Knights have continued to support the SMLE 5K. The run was successful and the Knights and the Parrish Community were able to make a nice donation to SMILE.

The 2023-2024 Fraternal Year is ending soon and we are in the process of drafting, voting, and publishing a budget for the 2024-2025 Fraternal Year. We are also holding Officer elections for the 2024-2025 Fraternal Year. I will be running again for the Grand Knight and one of my goals for the next Fraternal Year is to have more fun! On Sunday, April 28th, we held a Fish Fry Appreciation Night and it was fun. The weather for the outdoor patio was perfect, we had margaritas, catered Mexican food, we socialized and we celebrated Frank Swider’s Birthday with a cake. I could really tell that everybody enjoyed themselves and I want to do more activities like this. I realize many Brother Knights have families and careers and they may not have a lot of personal time and I want to show them and all Brother Knights that there is a fun-side to us and it’s not all work, work, work. We Brother Knights provide a great deal of service to God and the Parish Community but we also have fun too. May God Bless You All.

That concludes my report.

Vivat Iesu,

GK Brian Jeffers

Lecturer's Reflection
I have been studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church with the help of Fr Mike Schmitz. It has been stunning to me how much I don’t know. Here in paragraphs 675-676, it describes that before Christ’s second coming at the end of the Age of the Church, the Church will suffer the ultimate trial. Here is what the Catechism says about that trial:

675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity in the form of a religious deception offering man an apparent solution to their problems at the price or apostacy from the truth. The supreme is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo Messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of His Messiah come in the flesh.

676 The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can onlyrealized beyond history through the eschatological judgement. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the” intrinsically perverse” political form of secular messianism.

I realize how powerful our Catechism clearly and understandably presents our Catholic Faith and I encourage all of us obtain one and if you already have one to dust it off and feast on the truth of our Church.
