In-Person & Virtual Worship Services Sunday, May 5, 2024

Sixth Sunday of Easter

8:45am Encounter Service

9:45am Sunday School

10:45am Traditional Service

All services will be live-streamed to Facebook & YouTube.

This Sunday’s image of the life the risen Christ shares with us is the image of friendship. We are called to serve others as Jesus came to serve; but for John’s gospel, the image of servanthood is too hierarchical, too distant, to capture the essence of life with Christ. Friendship captures the love, the joy, the deep mutuality of the relationship into which Christ invites us. The Greeks believed that true friends are willing to die for each other. This is the mutual love of Christian community commanded by Christ and enabled by the Spirit.

Readings and Psalm

Acts 10:44-48

The Spirit poured out on the Gentiles

Psalm 98

Shout with joy to the Lord, all you lands. (Ps. 98:4)

1 John 5:1-6

The victory of faith

John 15:9-17

Christ the friend and lover

For those worshiping online via Facebook or YouTube, please leave a comment while watching. We miss seeing you, and we'd like to know you are with us.

Readings Online

Friends with whom we journey together:

This week we have the opportunity to examine how we accept the love from our Lord, and share it with, for a start, with our other disciples - those in our own faith community which we are committed to do ministry together. Each one of us is chosen by God and brought to this place to work together, loving each other, even when it is hard, so that we then have the possibility to share that same love in our wider world.

See you in worship,

Pastor Cathy

Call Committee Listening Sessions

The purpose of these meetings is to gather thoughts and ideas from the congregation in order to understand what it considers important, where we can improve, and where we want to go from here. Getting this feedback will assist the Call Committee in filling out the site survey documentation which we will then submit to the synod as part of the call process. It is also a good opportunity for us as a congregation to come together to discuss the future direction of our church.

Sign-up for the in-person and Zoom meetings for the Call Committee’s Listening Sessions. You can use the Sign Up button below OR there are sign up sheets in the Narthex. There are 4 opportunities for you to be heard.

  • The in-person meetings take place on May 5th Noon & at 5pm.

Please sign up for only 1 meeting. There will be food provided.

Blessing Box

Our Blessing Box is a blessing to those around us that are in need and it’s frequently empty. Please think about adding a few items when you do your weekly shop.

As the weather gets warmer and kids are out of school, here are some items that would be helpful to those needing our blessing box. Frozen water bottles, kid friendly food & non perishables, items to make a meal such as canned chicken and tuna. Also remember that no household items, clothing or expired or fresh (perishable) food should be left in the box.

Thank you for your generosity and for being a part of this wonderful initiative.

Please text or email Cheryl Herberg (615) 300-6283, if you have any questions.
