Principal's Message

Hello Wolfpack!

The past few days have been great. As you may know, Tuesdays are always special to me as this is the day I spend in classrooms and about school. I had such a wonderful time seeing how the students are learning in new ways. They used writing to improve their thinking in science. In Engineering, students got involved in hands-on projects. I saw students using graphic organizers to practice skills. A thoughtful question-of-the-day entry strategy engaged students right from the start.

And then on Wednesday, the president of the University of Washington came to visit our Genomics students, and she was absolutely impressed! The level of work students presented equaled that of a rigorous college project.

NCHS is truly an amazing community. Thank you for entrusting your student to us.

The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

Tardy Plan

I am reaching out to share an important update regarding our efforts to address tardiness among our high school students.

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed a concerning trend regarding tardiness among some of our students. While we understand that various factors can contribute to lateness, we believe it's crucial to address this issue proactively to ensure that all students can thrive in their educational environment.

As part of our ongoing efforts to promote punctuality and accountability, we are implementing a reset and relaunch of our tardy plan.

Please see our plan for moving forward. Staff will continue to support students through Four at the Door + One More. This school-based initiative is designed to pull students into the classroom by welcoming them in. Staff will also communicate with students when they are tardy and will notify the parent or guardian.

By working together, we can create an environment where all students feel supported and empowered to succeed. Your partnership in this effort is invaluable, and we're grateful for your collaboration as we strive to promote a culture of responsibility and punctuality in our high school community.

Turning in Technology

As we wrap up the 23-24 school year, please be aware that students are responsible for turning in all the school computers and charging cords they were assigned to. If a student turns in a charging cord that was assigned to a different student, they are still responsible for turning in the equipment assigned under their student ID. Some students have borrowed an additional loaner computer and/or charging cord and show multiple devices checked out under their names.

Field Day

NC Field Day is approaching quickly. If you would like to participate in the Student - Staff Volleyball match up, please register using the QR code.

National Merit Scholarship Program Qualifiers

The National Merit Scholarship Program hosts an annual academic competition for high school students, providing recognition and college scholarships. With approximately 1.5 million juniors taking the PSAT/NMSQT each year, only the top 3% of 11th-grade test-takers qualify for this prestigious program.

This year, North Central High School has two National Merit Scholarship Program Qualifiers

·      Isabella Schlettert

·      Zachary Schlettert

Isabella Schlettert

Isabella attended Balboa Elementary and Salk Middle Schools. She took two AP exams in 10th grade, Art History and Biology, receiving a 5 on both exams! She earned an impressive 1400 on the PSAT, placing her in the 97th percentile.

Izzy enjoys long walks while tuning into podcasts, accompanied by her dogs, with Tilly undoubtedly stealing the show. She's an avid runner, participating in cross country and track, and she appreciates both artistic endeavors and outdoor adventures.

Academically talented and hard-working, she is fascinated by genomics, particularly intrigued by the sparking insights into the intricacies of the brain. Her research project focuses on the learning and memory mechanisms of C. elegans.

Zachary Schlettert

Zachary attended Balboa Elementary and Salk Middle Schools. He took two AP exams in 10th grade, Art History and Biology, receiving a 5 on both exams. He earned an impressive 1480 on the PSAT, placing him in the 99th percentile!

Zack is part of a family of six that enjoys outdoor adventures. His interests are music, sports, and school. Zack is a three-sport athlete, football, basketball, and track. He also plays the trumpet in the school band.

Zack is a talented student with an interest in science. His research project in genomics delves into the intriguing realm of learning and memory, reflecting his curiosity and dedication to understanding the complexities of the human mind.

Genomics

Ana Mari Cauce, president of the University of Washington. visited NC's Genomics class on Wednesday, May 1. She spent 45 minutes walking through the presentations, asking questions, and commenting on the amazing work our students have accomplished.

Celebrating our Athletes

To NC Boys Baseball Team:

Our son has played baseball since he was 4 years old, and I feel privileged to say we have played a lot of games against a lot of teams. At no point have we ever observed such grace and sportsmanship from a team as we did in both games against your boys. Additionally, your coaches and families all deserve applause for their character. You could see your head coach has a deep love for the game. His energy and efforts to develop every boy on the team are obvious. As for your students, kudos to them. Not only did they not quit or get down on themselves, many of them took the time to honor and congratulate our sons on their skills. Body language is telling, and they showed a significant amount of self-control. It is clear, you have established a strong culture of growth and acceptance and I can’t say enough good things about sharing the field and stands with you all. Go Wolfpack!

Boys Golf

On Monday, NC golfers competed at Qualchan for the fourth GSL. On a day that included four separate rain/hail/snowstorms, chilly 25+mph winds, and the odd flash of sunshine, Teigen Brill finished at the top of the leaderboard with a first-place score of -3. Boden Wais shot his best round of the year. In the worst conditions of the season, Ethan Davis and Jameson Ebaugh also played some of their best golf.

On Thursday the JV golfers competed in equally challenging spring conditions- a little less rain but more wind out at The Plains golf course in Cheney.

Community Announcement

Hello NC parents!

My name is Ellie Rothstrom, and I’m the Communities in Schools post-secondary site coordinator at North Central. This survey is to help me better plan activities, events, and programs for your students oriented around college and the work force. It will also give me information about common obstacles and struggles for students, and will provide insight on how to best support you and your students when it comes to college preparation. I would be so grateful to receive your feedback!
