The purpose of pruning

is to improve the quality of the roses,

not to hurt the bush.

-Florence Littauer

Friends, I have been writing a weekly blog for four years, almost to the day. On April 16th, 2020 I sent out my first love letter which included the standard format of quote, picture and rambling. I thought as a fun throwback I'd dig up the archives and see what treasures I'd find...

Chamber Log: April 14th, 2021

Does every homeowner long for luscious green grass, a pristine white picket fence, and the perfect color palette of flowers and shrubbery to highlight what their yard has to offer? Uh yeah, I know I dream about this. A yard like this requires a great deal of time and attention and gardening know-how. I know people who spend hours in their backyard to achieve this elevated state of backyard grandeur. I also know people who pay someone else to spend hours in their backyard to accomplish the same feat. Either way, hat's off to you if you're weed free with plush plant life.

Recently I caught sight of a man pruning a tree.

Such an interesting concept; that we would intentionally remove something, in hopes of growth. This agricultural practice lends to removing dead, damaged or diseased wood and keeps the tree thriving. After becoming a homeowner, I have since learned the value of pruning and have watched plants flourish with fresh blossoms and new green branches. As a business owner, I also know the value of pruning and what that can mean for desired growth.

Business owners, employees, men and women work hard every day. Sometimes we work so hard that we feel like there is nothing left to give. Do you currently find yourself searching for the illusive easy button or hoping that someone else will tap in so you can sit on the sidelines? Me too. Guess what, you just need a good pruning. Heavy branches are just that, heavy. Take notice of what is weighing you down and make the brave decision to pull out the gardening shears and remove it.

A freshly pruned tree takes time to sprout a new bud. Give yourself time to restart, refresh and soon you'll see the fruits of your labor. Happy pruning, happy planting! Enjoy your season.

Well that was fun. Spring must awake a sense of purging as 2021 Kate and 2024 Kate have similar threads: out with the old, in with the new! And I always love the idea of slowing down. Please remember to take time to enjoy what's in front of you, cause you never know when the view will change.
