Message from Pastor Jackie
Jesus said: “I am the vine and you are the branches… Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.”
I’ve been thinking about what it means to abide. It means to be connected, to be in relationship. This reminds me of what my internship supervisor, and now mentor and friend, Pastor Gary Grideland taught me: “Stay connected to God, to community, and to each other.” CTK is so blessed with Pr. Gary remaining connected to this community and teaching a Bible Study on the Gospel of Mark. If you did not have the opportunity to attend, be sure to attend worship on Memorial Day weekend when he will preach and preside when I am on vacation. Thank you, Pr. Gary.
The image of the vine and the branches challenges us to recognize that we are dependent on God and one another. I think that is why I get so much joy from worshipping with you! I am able to witness to your connections with God through prayer, song, and sharing of Holy Communion. For, we are interconnected by the love of God in Christ Jesus. God is blessing CTK with a growing community; growing in faith, love, and hope. Focusing on Bible study and adult education, we grow as branches and leaves attached to the vine.
Another treasured connection CTK has is with All God’s Children. What a holy moment it was before worship when a few of the children recognized each other from AGC! They came forward for the children’s message to learn through the image of an unplugged lamp—that we are called to be connected to Jesus, then holding hands to show that we are connected to one another through the love of Jesus. The Sunday school class loved welcoming new friends when they learned about John the Baptist and chose the animals for God’s Global barnyard: A Fish farm, 3 Chicks, 1 Pig, and 1 goat! What a beautiful gift to connect CTK to others around the globe, sharing the love of Jesus.
May you see signs of hope in your connections with God, one another, and the community.
Shalom,
Pr. Jackie

*Saturday, May 4 @ 9 am - 4:30 pm
Lutheran Church of the Great Spirit, Milwaukee*
“Deconstructing Racism” is an introductory anti-racism training facilitated
by Rev. Marilyn Miller and Joyce Caldwell, PhD that is grounded in stories
of participants, the Bible, and history.
Through reflection on those stories, participants examine the construction
and meaning of racism and the part we all play in upholding and maintaining
the system. We will begin to identify steps and opportunities to grow in
both understanding and action.
