Guatemala
Guatemala is known as the place of origin for the Mayan civilization, which flourished there for the first millennium A.D. In 1821, it won its independence from Spain following three centuries of Spanish rule. In 1996, its government signed a peace agreement that ended a 36-year guerrilla war. Apart from the official language, Spanish, there are 21 Mayan languages commonly used. The work of the Church of the Nazarene began in Guatemala in 1904, making it the third-oldest Spanish mission of the Church of the Nazarene in the Western Hemisphere, after Cuba and Mexico. These nations have received missionaries for over a century, but they are also sending missionaries out. One of Guatemala’s own sons, Dr. Gustavo Crocker, was elected 41st general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene in June 2013. As you will read in the story that follows, Guatemala and other countries of the Mesoamerica Region are committed to a vision that, with God’s help, will have a significant impact.

PRAYER
- Pray that Nazarenes in this country will be an important part of the decadal regional faith goals: 1 million Nazarenes; 700,000 people attending worship services; 700,000 in Sunday school attendance; and sending $1.5 million to the World Evangelism Fund.
- Pray that the growth of vibrant Christians in Guatemala will continue to increase. Currently, statistics report that from 2020 to 2023 there was an increase in this demographic from 42.8% to 46.1%.
| | |
PRAISE
- Praise God that in Guatemala, across its 15 districts, there is freedom to preach the Word of God. Pray for receptive hearts to hear the Good News of Jesus.
- Praise God for the number of church planters from Guatemala who were trained at the NMI and Evangelism Summit and for their mission to reach their communities.

NYI - Young Adult Ministry
After high school, people take on many different paths as they go through life and into their careers, but they often come across some of the same challenges. The YAM ministry is being formed to unite our “young” adults (high school graduates to early 30’s) in an environment where there can be great discussion regarding the many facets of life. The primary focus of the group is to grow together, through fellowship, in the Word of God.

Y.A.M. Director
Reagan Smith is the Young Adult Ministry Director for NWIL District. We would like to hear your ideas for events, gatherings, subjects you would like to talk about, hearts desire for this new ministry, etc.
