The Artistic Director's Corner

Happy New Year! It’s been a wonderful start to 2024 for our Conservatory Division dancers with master classes from Connor Walsh and Chae Eun Yang of Houston Ballet, and we are just getting started!

In February our Paul Taylor residency comes to life. April brings our Roaring 20’s themed gala, which will give all the chance to kick up their heels; and in May our students will be presenting a triple bill of both beloved classics and contemporary new works in our Spring Show performances.

It is such an exciting time at BalletNova, and we are so grateful to have all along for the ride!

Sincerely,

Matthew Powell

Artistic Director

Community News

BalletNova is taking part in the National Day of Service to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. by holding a food drive to support the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). The drive will be from Saturday, January 13 through Sunday, January 21, with boxes for drop-off located in the front hallway of BalletNova. AFAC accepts most unopened, unexpired, and unprepared foods, including perishable items. For more information, including preferred items, click here.

Fundraising News

Thank you to all who supported BalletNova’s End of Year “20 for 20” campaign! BalletNova couldn’t continue its mission without the help of individual donors. Programs such as outreach classes and performances, the Free Ticket Program and expenses associated with performances are all supported by BalletNova’s individual giving campaigns. Another way to make donations go even farther is to see if your employer has a matching gift program. It’s an easy way to double your impact!

Please contact Elizabeth Spatz at espatz@balletnova.org if you have any questions.

Teacher Bio: Kimberly Martin

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kimberly honed her early dance skills at the Jordan College Academy of Dance, setting the stage for a lifelong commitment to the art.

Formally continuing her dance education, Kimberly pursued a dance minor from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.

As a certified yoga instructor with additional certification in Mind-Body Medicine, Kimberly expanded her holistic approach to well-being. Her expertise as a clinical psychologist further underscores her dedication to the intersection of mental and physical health.

During a summer intensive at the Alvin Ailey School of Dance, Kimberly discovered the transformative floor Barre techniques. In 2020, she joyfully rediscovered the unique benefits of Zena Rommett Floor Barre (tm), a technique that proved invaluable for someone returning to dance well into adulthood after a significant hiatus.
