General Newsletter Header 2021

As we close the chapter on 2024, I and the entire staff want to express our heartfelt appreciation for your support of the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Your generosity—especially through year-end gifts to our Operating Fund—is instrumental in sustaining our work. We truly could not do what we do without you.

We step into 2025 with renewed energy and an expanded team. We are pleased to welcome two new staff members and two new Board members who will help us continue our goals of supporting nonprofits, making impactful grants, engaging donors in meaningful philanthropy, and building community.

In addition to our ongoing efforts, we are working diligently to address community-wide challenges including:

  • workforce development and financial literacy to empower individuals and families and create opportunities for economic self-sufficiency,
  • housing and transportation solutions to help sustain the region's economy and diversity,
  • tackling the mental health crisis, and
  • protecting threatened and vulnerable community members to ensure equity and justice in the region.

Through all we do, we are committed to ensuring a thriving, connected Yampa Valley where resources and opportunities are accessible to all.

I invite you to stop by our office at the corner of 4th and Oak to meet our new team members and explore how we can support your charitable goals. We are honored to serve as your trusted partner in philanthropy and look forward to making an even greater impact together in the year ahead.

Grant(s) Highlight

Are you enjoying a fabulous 2024/2025 season of skiing and riding? So are these kids, thanks to YVCF grants making snowsports accessible to many who otherwise might not have the opportunity!

This winter, through the generosity of donors, fundholders and the Women's Giving Circle, nearly $26,000 has been granted to five nonprofit organizations to fund winter sports programming including:

  • $4,500 to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) and YV Autism to provide paraprofessionals for neurodiverse athletes
  • $1,107 to SSWSC for ski passes for low-income youth
  • $15,600 to Integrated Community to introduce 48 children to skiing/snowboarding through the Newcomer Ski Program
  • $3,500 to Steamboat Springs School District for seasonal ski rentals and lift tickets for low-income middle school students
  • $1,250 to SOS Outreach for Routt County programming

Charitable Giving Tip: IRA QCD

Are you over 70 1/2 years of age and taking a required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA? Are you curious about reducing the tax implications of that RMD and increasing your charitable giving through a qualified charitable distribution (QCD)?

It may sound like a complicated jumble of letters and choices, but the Yampa Valley Community Foundation can help simplify the process for you. By setting up a donor-designated 'QCD fund' at YVCF, we can help you distribute your QCD to the charities and causes you care about. Call or email Traci to learn more about the benefits and options available.
