Japanese Drumming Performance
By Aaron Prillaman
There is a certain allure of drumming that awakens a feeling in all of us. When we hear drums they make us feel excited and energized. Drums make us want to dance, or at least bob our heads. On Tuesday, March 26th at noon in the Rittling Conference Center, we will have an opportunity to experience the magic of Japanese drumming from Taikoza. Taikoza was formed in 1995 and has performed internationally as well as for film and television soundtracks. This show will feature large, barrel-shaped Japanese taiko drums. The large size of these drums requires a certain athleticism of the performers as they churn out engaging rhythms along with dance-like movements while playing. The performance will also feature other Japanese instruments like the shakuhachi and the fue, both bamboo flutes capable of producing ethereal melodies that will evoke a sense of tranquility much needed during our busy schedules. A talented dancer will also complement the ensemble, enhancing the experience. This is an incredible opportunity for our students to embark on a cultural journey without even having to leave campus. Join us and let the pulsating rhythm of traditional Japanese taiko drums whisk you away on a Japanese adventure!
