Sarah -

Summer is nearly here and many of us have vacation on our minds. I’ve been touring our great state and can report there are some amazing rural locations to visit! Do you know that northwestern Nevada’s Massacre Rim has one of the darkest skies on this planet? And you’ll meet cooler temperatures when you travel up to Dark Sky country.

I’m proud to share that I was elected Finance Chair of the Republican Lieutenant Governor’s Association. I recently attended the National Lieutenant Governor's Association spring meeting where I presided over a panel of speakers on workforce development, childcare, and prescription drug cost. Sharing innovative ideas with other Lieutenant Governors helps create better lives around the country.

I recently led a delegation to Taiwan where I traveled with Nevada state legislators to promote economic development and tourism between our countries. It was an amazing experience and I am grateful to share that experience with you.

Enjoy the first days of summer. Please remember, when you hit the road, be aware of our hard-working NDOT team!

OUTDOOR RECREATION

Nevada Wins $3.7 Million Federal Grant to Open Adventure Centers

Did you know, Nevada has the second largest capacity for outdoor tourism in the nation? That’s because 86% of Nevada is public land. From the red rocks of Gold Butte National Monument to the towering dunes of Tonopah, the Silver State is waiting to be explored.

“There are so many places in Nevada that are kind of hidden gems.”

M.E. Kawchack, Chief Deputy Director for the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs

To showcase these opportunities, the Nevada Division of Tourism is building two Adventure Centers (one located in Boulder City and another in Carson City) which will serve as a one-stop-shop to promote all the fun activities available in the area like kayak tours and guided hikes.

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

National Work Zone Awareness Week

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and partner agencies recognized National Work Zone Awareness Week, held from April 15 to April 19. Work zone crashes claim three lives every day in the U.S. Providing safe highways for motorists and highway workers whose lives are on the line is a top priority for NDOT. Nevada State Police have noticed an increase in speeders through construction zones which endangers police, highway workers, and the public.
