As part of the HRBT Expansion Project, construction crews will implement weekly lane closures, detours and traffic pacing on local roads, I-64 and the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Travel restrictions include possible delays, reduced speeds and detours in some areas. Lane closure, detours and traffic pacing are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Motorists traveling on Interstate 64 in both directions should expect to be stopped overnight on Tuesday, March 26. There will be up to three full closures, each lasting up to 60 minutes, between 11 p.m. on March 26 and 4 a.m. on March 27. During the closures, traffic will be diverted away from the HRBT. To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT) as an alternate route.

Motorists can also expect single lane closures on I-64 east from 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. and I-64 west from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on March 26, 2024.

The backup date for this work will be Wednesday, March 27.  Read the traffic alert here.

NOTE: Check the project webpage often for the latest updates to the weekly lane closures.
