Running of the Beavers 5K Run with Pep Band

It was a rainy morning for the Running of the Beavers but the Pep Band entertained the runners with some newer songs along with their more familiar repertoire. They even had some new bass drums sporting a fierce-looking beaver. Thanks to all who came out!

Choir

Thank you to our chaperones for the EBMEA Choir Festival at Garfield High School today and to Karen Wooten for accompanying our small vocal groups on their middle school tour (with band and orchestra students and chaperones) on Friday 3/29. We are still short one female chaperone for the Concert Choir/Advanced Chorale trip to Portland May 23-25. You will need to be approved as an SPS volunteer - please apply NOW if there is any possibility that you want to serve as a chaperone for any of the remaining events this year. Processing can take up to two weeks and is then good for two years.

Upcoming Dates

TODAY! Tues March 26 - EBMEA Choir Festival at Garfield High School. Meet at 8am in the back parking lot. Choirs are taking a charter bus to Garfield and will return to Ballard on metro buses at the end of the school day, likely arriving back in Ballard at 4.30/5pm. You may pick up your student at Garfield, but be sure to let Ms. Rowley and your student’s chaperone know that they are leaving and not taking the metro bus back to BHS. Wear concert attire - remember dark socks, shoes, ties, etc.

Fri March 29 (during school day, traveling on charter bus with band/orchestra) - Middle School Tour (Vocal Jazz, Tenor Bass Ensemble, and Chamber Choir only). Wear choir T-shirts and jeans. Meet at 7.45am in the back parking lot.

Tues April 2 (evening) - NW Region Choral Showcase at Ballard. All Choirs! Call time 6:15pm, wear choir T-shirts and jeans. Evening will end by around 9pm. Adult volunteers needed for bake sale, sign up here!

Fri - Sat April 26-27 - Solo and Ensemble State competition at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. This is NOT a field trip, so parents are responsible for getting their own performer there, but typically we organize in car pools. Parent drivers are needed for Tenor-Bass Ensemble, Vocal Jazz, Chamber Choir, and solo finalists. Soloists will need to plan to stay overnight in Ellensburg for finals on Saturday (book your hotels soon). The group competitions are on Friday only. Please let Sally know if you are planning to drive your student to Ellensburg and if you can take other students with you, so we can start to plan carpools.

Thurs May 23 - Sat May 25 - Advanced Chorale and Concert Choir, trip to Portland, OR. One more female chaperone needed. Our tour will include a choir exchange with three other excellent high school choirs in the PDX area, an intensive clinic with Dr. Coty Raven Morris at Portland State University, a performance at The Grotto in Portland, a performance at our Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia on the way home, and lots of group bonding and sight-seeing in between, including the Portland Saturday Market, Pearl District, Washington Park, BOWLING, and more😊!

We will stay at the Embassy Suites in downtown Portland and will have two charter buses with us for the entirety of the trip. Cost for chaperones and for students is $440. The first payment was due on March 20 and the second payment is due asap. Please use the following link to make the two payments of $220: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/fc9d7c8c-47a2-4b8d-b920-19d89ebd3a7c. You can also find this link by going to www.ballardperformingarts.org, choosing the Payments and Tickets tab, Trip Fees, and scrolling down to the bottom.

Please contact Sally at bpabchoirrep@gmail.com if you're able to chaperone/drive for any of these events.
