Developer working to convert Lawrenceville hotel into affordable housing

Strip District-based Hullett Properties is proposing to convert the TRYP by Wyndham hotel in Lawrenceville into an affordable housing project as a hotel group is also expressing interest in buying it if that plan falls through.

Hullett's proposal is a preliminary plan for which the development firm, best known in Pittsburgh for a Smallman Street condo project and the redevelopment of the Triangle Building downtown, has been granted $1.5 million in gap financing from the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh and has had initial meetings with community organizations in the neighborhood for a project that also faces some resistance...Read More

Beacon CEO Dara Kovel sees "stars align" to make Pittsburgh her firm's busiest city for affordable housing development

Dara Kovel's three-day itinerary on a freezing few days in Pittsburgh included a ceremonial wall-whacking to kick off an affordable senior living redevelopment of the First & Market building downtown, then a ribbon cutting for the completion of the Letsche School redevelopment in the Hill District.

The shift from a "before" ceremony for one project to an "after" one in the same city within a few days of one another demonstrates an ongoing ramp up in investment in Pittsburgh that will go beyond the combined more than $60 million invested in the two projects by Beacon for which Kovel was in town...Read More

It's also a bit overwhelming to grapple the long-term impacts the wildfires will inevitably have on the Greater Los Angeles area — a market already struggling with high home prices, constrained inventory and development hurdles.
