ATHENA Nominations Due Monday, January 20th

Article by The Chamber

1.14.2025

The Empower Her Committee and the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce kindly remind you that nominations for the 18th Annual ATHENA Leadership Award are due on Monday, January 20th. This prestigious award honors individuals who demonstrate professional excellence, meaningful community service, and a commitment to empowering women to achieve their leadership potential. If you know someone whose leadership inspires others and empowers women, don’t wait—nominate them today!

This year’s ATHENA Leadership Award will be presented at the Professional Women’s Luncheon on April 22, 2025, where we will honor an exceptional leader and continue the legacy of Vanessa Y. Mintz, who brought this program to Henderson County in 2008.

Nominations are judged and a recipient selected by a panel of professionals out of the Henderson County area, based on the criteria set forth by ATHENA International. Nominators should plan to tell their nominee's story through rich narrative and details, as judges will have no knowledge of even well-known community members.

You may have noticed a recent change—what was formerly known as the ATHENA Committee is now the Empower Her Committee. While the name is new, our mission remains the same: to support, connect, and uplift women in Henderson County through impactful programs and events like the Women's Breakfast, the Professional Women’s Luncheon, and Empower Hours.

Interested in being part of the Empower Her Committee that organizes these meaningful events? Reach out to the Chamber to learn more about joining this dynamic group of women leaders.

January 2025 NC Economy Watch: Three Big Questions for 2025

Article by NC Department of Commerce, The Lead Feed

1.14.2025

Welcome to the January 2025 edition of NC Economy Watch: an update on what’s happening in the North Carolina economy and what it means for you, brought to you by the Labor & Economic Analysis Division (LEAD) of the NC Department of Commerce.

This article kicks off our 2025 season of economic updates. We recently took a break from this series to focus on tracking the economic impact of Hurricane Helene, but now we’re back on schedule. Stay tuned for bimonthly installments of NC Economy Watch in the year to come.

Speaking of the year to come: what will the new year bring for North Carolina’s economy? Unfortunately, it’s hard to say for sure. The direction of the economy is as uncertain as it’s ever been, and for now, we have a lot more questions than answers. Here are three of the big questions we’ll be asking as 2025 gets underway:

  1. Will Asheville’s labor market recover from Hurricane Helene?
  2. Will labor market conditions improve for jobseekers across the state?
  3. Will we see any more relief on interest rates?
