Helping Those in Need during this Christmas Season

Dear Friends of Catholic Charities,

As you and your friends gather to celebrate the joy of Jesus’ birth, I hope you will remember how grateful we are for your support of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington. From feeding the hungry to helping young mothers and their babies, the working poor, the homeless and low-income seniors, Catholic Charities is there to bring aid and comfort in Jesus’ name.

You make miracles happen through your gifts to Catholic Charities. You give hope where hope is needed. You bring comfort to those who are suffering. You shine the light of Christ in the darkest places.

We at Catholic Charities are so grateful for your willingness to answer Christ’s call to serve. And as the need in our Diocese continues, we pray that you will consider making a Christmas donation of $75, $113, or even $150 or more during this Season of Giving.

Your generous Christmas gift to Catholic Charities will go immediately to help someone in desperate need and provide Christmas blessings to:

…A single mother with three young children like Brittany who found herself unable to pay rent and provide for her family’s basic needs while waiting for her nursing license to be approved. To fill the gap, Brittany called on Catholic Charities for help. Catholic Charities provided rental assistance to keep the family housed and fed until Brittany’s license came through and she could secure employment as a nursing assistant.

…a lonely widow like Beverly who was burdened by grief and struggling to make ends meet without her husband. With a heavy heart, she reached out to Catholic Charities for financial assistance with her utility bills. Not only did Catholic Charities help her keep the power on, we also provided with her the compassionate companionship she desperately needed. We gave Beverly a renewed sense of hope in her darkest hour.

…A hungry family like Kevin, Margaret, and their three children, who suddenly found themselves in dire straits because of a job loss. They turned to Catholic Charities to keep food on the table while Kevin searched for a new job. Thanks to this lifeline, they eventually found their footing once more, proving that in times of adversity, Catholic Charities is a beacon of light and sustenance.

From every corner of the Diocese, families and individuals call on Catholic Charities in their time of need. They turn to us when they have no one else to turn to … when friends and family cannot help … and when government aid is insufficient. Because of your support, we can be there for them when no one else can.

This Christmas and in the coming months, children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and others will need to rely on us.

So please, give as generously as you can to Catholic Charities for Christmas. And as you consider how much to give, make room in your heart for the Holy Family – Mary, Joseph, and the infant Jesus – who gave hope to the world in the dark of night and with no room of their own.

Thank you for your generosity. And may God bless you at Christmas and in the year ahead.

Yours in Christ,

Fritz Jones, Executive Director,

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Wilmington

New York Tenors Christmas Show A Big Hit for Crowd of 700!

Encores can be best and judging by the reaction of the audience watching the New York Tenors, the second time was the charm. About 700 people shook off the rain and arrived at Saint Mark’s High School December 10 for the Sights and Sounds of Christmas 2023,” the group’s second Christmas show in as many years in the Diocese of Wilmington.

It was the first appearance at Saint Mark’s High School with a show benefitting the local Catholic Charities. Andy Cooney, Daniel Rodriguez and Christopher Macchio brought the crowd to its feet more than once ticking off one Christmas classic after another. The group performed together and solo for various favorites and were also joined by soprano Arianna Paz.

The show was opened by Christ the Teacher Middle School Choir. The evening concluded with a meet-and-greet with the performers and Bishop Koenig.

The Bishop’s 5K Supports Catholic Charities

in Diocese of Wilmington

Clear skies and cool temperatures greeted energetic walkers and runners competing in the family friendly Bishop’s 5K on November 18 at Saint Mark’s High School. Funding was raised for Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Wilmington. This year, the event had 268 registered participants.

We recognize and salute the family, friends, and former associates of Andrea Rotsch, to whom this year's Bishop 5K was dedicated. Team Andrea, organized by George Rotsch, had 52 participants. And others donated to Catholic Charities in Andrea's memory. Her profound impact on the work of Catholic Charities lives on!
