Students to witness historic solar eclipse on April 8

On Monday, April 8, North America will experience a total solar eclipse, and North Texas is positioned to witness one of the best possible views of the eclipse because of the path of the moon. To provide students and staff with the ability to watch the event free of harm to their eyes, special eclipse glasses will be provided to every student and staff member thanks to the support of local businesses and organizations. The Northwest ISD Education Foundation graciously donated more than 25,000 pairs, and the Perot Museum donated several thousands more.

Beginning at about 12:23 p.m., North Texas will experience a partial solar eclipse, which will then transition into a total solar eclipse at about 4 minutes, though the partial solar eclipse will last about two and a half hours. Schools will provide students with the opportunity to witness the total solar eclipse shortly before it begins

For more information, including a timeline of the eclipse, helpful links, eye safety tips and much more, visit our 2024 Total Eclipse webpage.

NISD looking for Watch D.O.G.S.

Attention all fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other father figures, our campuses are looking for Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)!

Watch D.O.G.S. provides positive male role models for our students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. They may read with students, play at recess, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, mentor students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their children, but other students as well.

For more information, visit www.nisdtx.org/volunteer to begin the volunteering process, then contact your campus about becoming a member of Watch D.O.G.S.
