Reflection: Reading Esther's Story

This day finds Palm Sunday and Purim overlapping. Both are recognized as days of delight and joy. Purim is the most fun-filled and exuberant of all Jewish holidays, celebrating the triumph of Jews over their arch-enemy in Persia, during the 5th Century BCE-Haman. After his death, a day of celebration was commemorated as a celebration of life and survival by all people - rich and poor alike. So began the custom of exchanging food and sweets with friends and relatives, as well as giving food and money to the poor.

As part of our service, we will read The Book of Esther and every time Haman's name is read, we make a great noise to drown out his name. Then after the service, as S.T.A.R. Family and Friends, we will enjoy Refreshments and Sharing Time Together.

BUILDING FUND EVENT

The Building Fund Raising Committee plans to raise some additional money by selling parking spaces during Spartanburg’s Spring Fling. We will use Central’s parking lot and the lot across Church Street which some members use during Sunday services. This was done very successfully in the past when the youth held the event. We will need volunteers on Friday evening, April 26th, all day Saturday, April 27th, and Sunday afternoon, April 28th. Each shift will be 3 to 4 hours and about 40 volunteers are needed to cover the necessary times.

If you are willing to help with this project, please call the church office (582-7263) and leave a message or send an email to: Gina Hamer.

Ways to Give to Central

We continue to be deeply grateful for continued support of the mission and ministry of Central Church. There are a few ways to continue to make offerings extremely easy.

  1. The US mail always works. We are at 233 North Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
  2. Contact the Financial Secretary to set up a recurring gift through an automatic bank draft.
  3. VANCO Mobile
  4. On the homepage on the church's website there is a "Give" link. Once you set up that app any additional gifts are as easy as one or two clicks.
