A small, inaugural release from Caymus Vineyards, this wine is a California-appellation Cabernet Sauvignon – supple, dark and rich, bearing the signature hallmarks of Caymus. It is sourced from sites throughout the state which feature climatic conditions, soils and topography that are ideally suited to Cabernet. This project stems from excitement over California's diverse vineyard land, often in lesser-known areas, with the potential to produce exceptional Cabernet.

Faust

95 Points James Suckling

Cabernet’s classic aromas and flavors star in the 2021 Faust Napa Valley. Delicate violet notes lift the dark fruit on the nose—black currant and briary blackberry—layered with pungent forest botanicals, leafy tobacco, graphite, and toasted spice. The velvet of fine-textured tannins backs expressive red fruit flavors on a complex palate, both sweet and savory with mocha and minerality, juicy ripe fruit and freshness.

WINE OF THE MONTH

Seghesio

125th Anniversary

Sonoma County

Zinfandel

2020

$19.99

reg. $25.99

An expressive burst of aromas of deep dark fruits lead into layered tones of lifted red fruit and a soft, luscious mid-palate. A juicy, vibrant entry with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, fig, baking spice and fresh Santa Rosa plum, is interwoven with supple, textured tannins and acidity on the long, complex finish. Pair well with grilled steak, sausage and peppers with cheesy polenta, and pasta dishes with tomato-based sauces such as baked rigatoni or pappardelle Bolognese. Pairs well with semi-hard cheeses such as dry jack – our favorite is from a local Sonoma producer, Vella Cheese Company – and aged cheddar or gouda.

Not Yet Rated

In typical Noma fashion, this scraggly and ancient Eastside Lodi situated vineyard eked out a scant .5 tons/acre of vibrant fruit in 2020. The low-yields, sandy soils and small canopies on these 100+ year old vines make for a sunshine-filled expression of Zinfandel filled with dark plum, spice and loam balanced by remarkable natural brightness. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in puncheons to retain freshness, this is a wonderfully distinct example of how good Lodi Zinfandel can be.

ORVAL DAY 2024

One thing is certain, Orval is iconic. Dry-hopped and bottle-conditioned with Brettanomyces, Orval is a Trappist beer continually bucking the Abbey Ale trend. Superbly effervescent with ever changing floral, herbal, and earthy tones, we’ll let you sort out the specifics.

Each year Merchant du Vin, importers of Orval, designates one day in which they donate 50 cents for every bottle of Orval sold in the United States. This year Orval Day is Saturday, March 23rd and will benefit the National Forest Foundation.
