This Weekend in Worship

This week, the center of the church’s year, is one of striking contrasts: Jesus rides into Jerusalem surrounded by shouts of glory, only to be left alone to die on the cross, abandoned by even his closest friends. Though we lament Christ’s suffering and all human suffering, we also expect God’s salvation: in the wine and bread, Jesus promises that his death will mark a new covenant with all people. We enter this holy week thirsty for the completion of God’s astonishing work.

Endowment Grant Proposal

Grant applications for endowment funds can be used for scholarships to ELCA schools, extra support for Faith ministries, support for local service agencies, and to enhance the work of the synod. Click here to complete the form by March 31.

Civic Life & Faith

How as Lutherans should we understand our relationship to civic life — including government — as individuals and as a church body? The ELCA is developing a social statement on civic life and faith, the relationship of church and state, and related matters, as called for by the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

Social statements are important documents because they govern church teaching and policies, and support ministries. They also serve as discernment tools for ELCA members as they think about social issues such as civic life.

Between now and Sept. 30, 2024, you are invited to study and give feedback on the draft by filling out an online survey or attending a hearing in your synod, as available. To access the draft and the survey, go to www.elca.org/civicsandfaith.
