Carver Center is a central resource for Port Chester's low-income community. Residents shop at the Carver Market weekly and receive a free 4-day supply of food which includes healthy proteins and nourishing fresh fruit and vegetables. In the past year, Carver Center distributed 430,552 pounds of food (318,412 of which were fresh produce and proteins) and had over 17,000 visits.
Additionally, the Retail Recovery program enabled us to recover 104,017 pounds of food from area supermarkets. We anticipate that with the increased storage made possible through the grant, we will be able to recover more food from area grocery stores and increase the amount of healthy food distributed to the community.
We are profoundly grateful to the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for this grant. It will greatly enhance our ability to serve those in need. This support is instrumental in our mission to alleviate food insecurity within our community and to nourish our families.
