A MESSAGE FROM FATHER STEVE & DR. MORALES

OLQA SCHOOL Campus Security Project

Over the past year, many parents have donated their time and expertise to serve on the Safety Committee at Our Lady Queen of Angels School. They have worked diligently to make recommendations for campus security enhancements and submit them to us for consideration. After consultation with the Newport Beach Police Department and the Diocese of Orange as well as the school administrative team, we have approved the first phase of recommendations below and are proceeding forward to completion.

SECURITY FENCE

The first part of the pending school security enhancements will be a new fence along the Domingo Drive side of campus. Currently, there is no protective fence in this area. The construction timeline is being scheduled with the Parish Facilities Director, our vendor and the Diocesan Project Manager. Although our campus will be impacted, we are working diligently to minimize the disruption. The plan is to complete this by mid-summer 2024. The cost is $252,000.

PROTECTIVE WINDOW TREATMENTS

The second security enhancement will be adding protective window treatments to the windows of the classrooms that face Domingo Drive. The bottom portion of the windows will receive bullet-resistant lamination. The top windows will receive riot-resistant lamination. These protective films are designed to minimize any entry through these exposed windows. The window treatment project has been submitted for approval to the Diocese. Due to disruption to classrooms, this project will be scheduled during spring and summer breaks. The cost is $113,000.

We are grateful for the many parents, grandparents and friends who would like to support these projects. We are also pleased that the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has voted to allocate $50,000 of the funds from the recent successful PTO Golf Tournament to these security projects. The remaining $315,000 needed will be raised through the PTO's High School Time Machine Fundraiser and its Fund A Need.

For those who have expressed interest in making a donation before year end, thank you and please make your donations via the link below to support the Fund A Need.

Blessings,

Father Steve & Dr. Morales
