Onboarding is the process of integrating new employees into an organization and its culture, in addition to helping them access the tools and resources they will need to become successful team members. Community Health Centers (CHCs) should approach new employee onboarding strategically - keeping long-term retention in mind. Join subject matter experts from the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) STAR² Center to learn more about why strategic onboarding is so important, how it bridges recruitment and retention efforts, and how to apply the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) lens to your onboarding processes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the significance of strategic onboarding in fostering long-term organizational retention.
  2. Learn the key components of effective onboarding processes, including integration into organizational culture and provision of necessary tools and resources.
  3. Apply the principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) to enhance onboarding practices, ensuring inclusivity and equity for all new employees.

Session 2: Build It and They Will Stay: Staff Development for Retention

Wednesday, May 22, 10:00 - 11:00 AM ET

Join subject matter experts from the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) STAR² Center to learn more about the critical importance of including staff development in a health center’s retention efforts. As retention continues to be an ongoing challenge for health centers, developing and implementing strategies for staff development is a crucial part of retaining an engaged and thriving workforce. Strategies for staff development include building career pathways and providing access to skills training and continuing education—all of which require careful planning and a meaningful investment by leadership. Supporting the growth and career ambitions of the health center workforce also means embracing a shift in roles, developing flexible operational structures, and centering the process on the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI).

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain an understanding of the pivotal role of staff development in addressing retention challenges within health centers.
  2. Explore various strategies for staff development, including the establishment of career pathways and the provision of skills training and continuing education, recognizing the necessity for deliberate planning and substantial leadership investment.
  3. Recognize the organizational shifts required to support the growth and career aspirations of health center staff, including the adoption of flexible operational structures and the integration of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles into staff development processes.
