Community Care Update - May 8, 2024

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers for thereby; some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2

Contributing to the needs of the saints practicing hospitality!” Romans 12:13

When a guest comes, Christ comes.” Saint Benedict

Dear Friends,

Henry Nouwen said, “At first the word hospitality might evoke the image of soft kindness, tea parties, bland conversation and a general atmosphere of coziness,” Although this is all great, Nouwen preferred to instead live into the ANCIENT MEANING OF HOSPITALITY as the offer of a space where “change can take place,” a space “where the stranger can enter and become a friend”!
Nouwen is correct. Hospitality is not shallow. Hospitality is deep and deliberate. It is well planned and just as essential implemented by the hosts ushers, greeters and lectors whose eyes are trained on strangers,
whose postures are outward facing, and whose relationships lie in the future and not just the past!

“If hospitality and welcoming are your passion and if you would like to volunteer to meet more people please email me at julie@naplesemmanuel.org. It is summer season and we have the need to grow our volunteers ❤️. We welcome all of you to this essential ministry. Call me for details. The frequency can be on your schedule too.

Blessings for health and love,
Julie

"Challenges of Grief"
in the Chapel

The GriefShare group is open to all men, women, members and non-members of our community and will continue through the summer. We continue to communicate one-on-one in person, and by email to share how we are all doing with processing grief.

We share stories, watch a video, and have a
take home workbook (optional) to develop new healing practices to help us
with our grief.

The class is also listed on www.griefshare.org website, under zip code 34102.

If you would like to come or know of someone that would like more information please contact me at julie@naplesemmanuel.org

Our summer reading book is The Gift of Empathy. We will be a pilot group for their Gift of Empathy Discussion Guide and send the Stephen Ministry our “OVERALL THOUGHTS” before their publication is printed.  We hope to expand what we learn this summer for next season’s Stephen Ministry education programs. If you would like more information, please contact me at julie@naplesemmanuel.org

Visitation to hospitals, and care facilities are available with short notice, as well as for those who would like a more long-term Christian care relationship. Remember to e-mail me if you plan on going into the hospital and would like a pastoral care visit from either a Pastor or Stephen Minister. We can deliver Holy Communion to you or your family member as well!

For more information on how to have a visit from a Stephen Minister, please contact Julie.
