Library Closings

Please be informed that the library will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2024, in observance of Good Friday. We appreciate your understanding as we take this time to observe the significance of the day. Rest assured, we will reopen on the following day, Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10 am, ready to welcome you back for all your reading and resource needs.

St. Patrick's Day, celebrated annually on March 17th, honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. What began as a religious feast day has evolved into a global celebration of Irish culture. St. Patrick's Day serves not only as a cultural tribute but also as a joyful reminder of the global impact of Irish contributions to literature, music, and art.

Over the centuries, the day has become synonymous with Irish identity, marked by parades, feasts, and the vibrant display of the color green. Irish communities worldwide celebrate their heritage on this day, showcasing the rich history, folklore, and resilience of the Irish people.

The Museum Pass program is accessible to Delaware Library cardholders who are adults (18 years and older).

Visit your local library to borrow a museum pass and enjoy a wonderful, cost-free visit to one of Delaware's captivating museums. Presently, our selection includes passes for Mt. Cuba, Brandywine Zoo, and Tyler Arboretum.

For passes to additional attractions, kindly verify their availability through the Museum Key.

It's important to be aware that each museum pass comes with its own set of admission regulations. Reserving a museum pass signifies the patron's commitment to adhering to the library's museum pass policy. For further details, please reach out to our reference department at (302)328-1995 or click here.

Recipe of the Month: Bangers & Mash

Bangers and mash, one of the most popular dishes in contemporary Great Britain and Ireland, is an unusual treat in the United States, and the mystique is only increased by the meal's unusual and evocative name. Sausages in the United Kingdom have colloquially been called “bangers” since the World War I era, when food rationing measures led to the production of cheap sausages with fillers that would pop when fried in a pan.

While sausage quality in the UK is no longer artificially suppressed by wartime rationing, cultural differences in relative leanness and spicing of sausage make this popular British and Irish pub dish somewhat difficult to replicate perfectly this side of the Atlantic. Cumberland, Lincolnshire, or Irish sausages make for the most authentic bangers and mash.

Toxic: Women, Fame, and the Tabloid 2000s by Sarah Ditum

The mid-aughts were a terrible time to be a teen idol. We will never forget the New York Post’s infamous “Bimbo Summit” headline featuring a photograph of Lindsay, Paris, and Britney, just like we’ll never forget the wrath of Perez Hilton, or Britney losing it on a paparazzi who just wouldn’t leave her alone. But in the last few years, the culture has seen a moment of reckoning of that era that was so hostile to young women. Now, Sarah Ditum reexamines the lives of nine female celebrities in the 2000s, and the sexist, exploitative culture that took them down.
