Dear Residents -

As of today, the new Town Hall building is open and ready for business! Be advised, however, that while the building is open to the public, work is still being done in the new Town Board meeting room and at the old Town Clerk’s office, which is being renovated for new Justice Court offices. Then, in approximately ten days, the dismantling and demolishing of the old building is expected to start. Having worked in that building for the last 27 years, trust me when I say it is time.

The last Town Board meeting of 2023 will be on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. At the meeting, a member of the Sanitation Commission will be making a presentation to the Town Board on a requested rate increase of the garbage haulers. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can watch it live on Channel 78 on Optimum, Channel 30 on Fios or on Facebook Live. It will also be available the following day on the Orangetown YouTube channel.

This meeting will also be the last one for Councilman Tom Diviny who, after 14 years of service, is moving on to the Rockland County Legislature. I know you all join me in wishing Tom well in his newly elected position.

If you are looking for things to do this weekend, check out the Orangeburg Volunteer Firefighters Annual Holiday Parade on Saturday. The parade starts at 6 pm and will be filled with great floats. Then, on Sunday, the Chabad of the Nyacks will be hosting the Menorah Lighting Ceremony at 4 pm in the Village of Nyack. Note, the Pearl River Menorah Lighting Ceremony will be at 6:15 pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Braunsdorf Park.

No matter what you decide to do this weekend, enjoy and be safe!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Orangetown Police Department

As the days grow shorter and darkness falls earlier, it's important to be mindful of our surroundings and take steps to enhance the safety of our community.

Lock it Up:

  • Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked, both at home and in your vehicles.
  • Don't forget to secure sheds, garages, and any other access points.

Illuminate Your Space:

  • Well-lit areas deter criminal activity. Consider installing outdoor lighting around your property.
  • Motion-activated lights can be an effective and energy-efficient choice.

Be Vigilant:

  • If you notice anything unusual or suspicious in your neighborhood, please report it promptly.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it's worth checking out.

See Something, Say Something:

  • Report any suspicious activity to Your Local Police Department's Non-Emergency Number.
  • For immediate police assistance call the Orangetown Police Department at 845-359-3700. In emergencies, you can always call 911.

Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to follow these safety tips. Together, we can create a safer and more secure community.
