WVNCC Celebrates Women's History Month
Women's History Month provides an opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions of women in sports.
Despite facing obstacles and stereotypes, women have made remarkable strides in athletics.
Historically, women were discouraged from participating in sports, deemed unfeminine or inappropriate. However, legislative measures like Title IX in 1972 opened doors for female athletes, providing equal opportunities in educational programs, including sports.
Recently, Caitlin Clark’s electrifying performances on the court have captured the attention of fans and fellow athletes alike. Clark's success serves as a rallying point for female athletes, demonstrating the power of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity.
Her journey to prominence in a traditionally male-dominated sport has resonated with women from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of solidarity and camaraderie among athletes striving to break barriers and achieve their goals.

March is Social Work Month with the 2024 theme of Empowering Social Workers.
With homelessness, opioid addiction and suicide all on the rise, our nation needs social workers more than ever.
Social workers are uniquely qualified to handle these societal troubles and enter the profession because they truly want to help others. They go through years of education, training, and supervision so they can do the delicate but important work of helping people achieve their goals.
Social workers are also trained to help individuals, families, communities, and even the larger society if regulations and laws must be changed in order to help people who need it. You will find social workers everywhere—in schools, hospitals, and at the federal, state, and local levels in government, corporations, social service agencies, veterans centers as well.
Social work is also one of the fastest growing professions in the United States.
It is important for the public to support legislation and initiatives that empower and support the social work profession and improve their bottom line. This includes the Improving Access to Mental Health Act, student loan debt relief, and social work safety legislation.
