April 2024 Canine Newsletter

Message from Jim:

Hello all,

Home at the moment, but in a few days will be heading to Europe for some fun in the sun! Not to worry, though – it’s a working vacation as I’ll also be teaching a weekend Masterson Method Beyond Horse Massage Course while in Spain. Better re-learn a little Spanish.

Einstein had this to say about learning: The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.

The idea of continued learning is something we are focusing on this month. And I just learned that April 11th is National Pet Day here in the US. I’ll be in a different nation for National Pet Day, but I will let them know about it while I’m there.

National Pet Day was created by Colleen Paige in 2006. As an animal welfare campaigner, her goal was to bring awareness to the many animals that are in shelters (and there are a lot of them) around the country and the world.

If you want to combine continued learning with caring for and connecting with animals, there’s a simple Technique that you can learn that will accomplish all three; learning, connecting and caring! and here it is:

This is how it works: Search to find areas of tension, when you see a Response (blink, change of breath) Stay there lightly, until you get a Release (yawn, shake, lying down).

When your dog realizes you are listening and paying attention, your connection and bond will grow. When they release tension, they’re healthier and happier. You’ve accomplished three things; Learning, Connecting and Caring for your pet.

We’ve seen it happen in courses and heard about it in testimonials. A Read and Release course student has written a blog about her experience - read more about that below (have the tissues handy).

If you haven’t tried it yet, check out this and other free videos on Youtube and let us know how it’s going.

That’s the news for this month. We’ll check in with you next month. Until then,

Enjoy your pets!

Learning to connect with my new dog using The Masterson Method®

by Charlie Frost

Last winter, I lost my 11-year-old dog Harry to cancer. Harry was my first dog, and from the moment he arrived in my family’s life, we adored him. Harry was a Hungarian Vizsla, or ‘Velcro Vizsla’ as they’re aptly nicknamed due to the way they ‘attach’ themselves to their owners, and Harry personified this, following us around like an ever-present, rust-coloured shadow. We embraced this; he ran up mountains with my husband, cantered alongside me and my horse, swam with us in the ocean, camped alongside us in tents and was our constant road-trip companion. He was wherever we were. Until he wasn’t...
